Are you saying there is more? What do you base that on? When I moved to Chicago from the deep South in the mid 1970's I saw as much if not more racism and bigotry there as what I saw in the South. My FIRST day there riding down mainstreet in Oaklawn the three guys from there I was riding in saw a black guy walking down the street and they looked at each other and the "what is he doing here" , they turned around and drove by and gave him that look like you better get out here and we're watching you.

When I first moved to Cola. from the midwest a few years back, one of the first people I met said, "you don't have n*ggers there like we have here, huh?" I also play drums, and when I moved here, I looked on Craigslist for bands, and saw a listing for a Johnny Rebel cover band to play for a Klan rally (which was very shocking, and something I certainly had seen nowhere else). No sir, the racism in the South is real, and it is overt. However, as I said, I don't think it's more racist than other areas, it's just a different kind of racism. Frankly, a more honest kind.

 

Where do you live down in the Orangeburg area?

 

Columbia. I've actually been warned against Orangeburg as being "not safe for whites"

 

That's what I thought two different parts of the state, i live up a stone's throw from clemson

 

I actually worked down there for a few months , hated the area, I didn't have no problems with being white, but it was weird feeling /vibes and all

 

Well, I haven't lived in other parts of the state. I thought that a centrally located state capital would be representative of the general attitude of the state. Maybe I'm wrong.

 

We have a lot of transplant northerners/ midwest, people living here from overseas (All the foreign company's that moved here) and all..
