What Are You Listening to Right Now? #20

Just to digress, what do PF forum members think of so-called "re-mastered" songs?
I think they're bloody awful and it's sacrilege to mess about with the old classics like that by jazzing them up with a new backing soundtrack, so I refuse pointblank to listen, let alone buy..

I'm not a fan of that myself, Dropship. It's one thing to digitally remaster an album to improve the sound quality of the original but it's quite another to monkey around with a classic.

Not long ago I was purchasing a copy of Led Zeppelin's live album The Song Remains The Same and I heard Jimmy Page had gone in and butchered some of the songs from the original recording. Needless to say, I bought the original even though the sound quality may not be as good as the new version.

 

Yes and kids today often don't even realise the old ones have been messed about ("re-mastered") unless they read the small print!
For example I was invited for dinner with a woman and her son, and when they put on a CD of the old 1960's classics I could immediately tell it was all modern re-mastered stuff and they argued with me when I tried to tell them..
The fact is, we old 'uns were teenagers during the 60's so our word is like holy writ because we were there!..

 

Oh, I agree with you, you should never miss with the original, unless it is the original artist that wrote it in the first place. You know the reason they do it don't you? They can't come up with anything original themselves that anyone would want to listen too, so they do covers to make themselves some extra bucks. Even hard rock bands are starting to cover old songs. But each to his own, I'm kind of a snob that way.
