What better time to strip 20M of their healthcare than during a pandemic.

Trump administration asks Supreme Court to strike down Obamacare amid pandemic, recession

"The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to wipe out Obamacare, arguing that the individual mandate is unconstitutional and that the rest of the law must be struck down with it.

The late-night brief, filed Thursday in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, carries major implications for the presidential election. If the justices agree, it would cost an estimated 20 million Americans their insurance coverage and nullify protections for pre-existing conditions.

The Trump administration’s brief comes as the U.S. has recorded more than 120,000 deaths from COVID-19, with nearly 2.5 million confirmed cases. On Wednesday, the nation hit a new record for the highest daily total of new infections reported with more than 45,500."

I'm sure most of us remember how Capt. Clorox said how easy it would be to replace the ACA with a plan that would cover more people with great benefits for less money. It was going to be beautiful. But where is the plan?

"WASHINGTON — Health care was already a vulnerability for President Donald Trump before the coronavirus pandemic hit. Now his lack of a plan to fix the system is coming under a new microscope as the crisis costs many Americans their coverage and overwhelms providers.

The clarity in Trump's health care vision begins and ends with repealing the Affordable Care Act, or ACA, also known as Obamacare. His budget proposals would strip away funding for the law, and he has endorsed a lawsuit to wipe it off the books. But the president hasn't thrown his weight behind a replacement bill or even an outline, and he has rejected calls to reopen Obamacare for enrollment during the current crisis."

The Affordable Care Act is more popular now than when Obama was president

As I said in an earlier thread, Trump is speaking to you members of The Following. He is telling you he is unfit to be prez because while he basks in your glorification of him he is showing you his disregard for the well being of 20M of your fellow citizens and anyone with a pre-existing condition.

It's one of the more consequential decisions the Trump admin has made given the implications for the health and well being of 20M or more Americans.

Yet Trumpette's have no ability or willingness to defend it.

No surprise, he cares more about confederate monuments than about dying American citizens.

    Not to worry...

If Obamacare goes away, I am sure that everyone who is for it will agree to pool their resources and start a non-profit organization that will take the place of socialized healthcare. Seriously, it can be done. There is no need for the government to force people to participate in it. If those who really cared would step up, they could make this a reality outside of government.

The way it can work is this:

Everyone who believes in socialized medicine will sign up for it, and will receive equal health care to the extent that the non-profit can pay for it. As for funding the non-profit, the amount each participant pays will be determined by their income. I would suggest that those who have an income below $20,000 will pay zero, and then the payments can be progressive from there. At the upper end, I suggest that anyone who makes over $2,000,000 would pay 50% of their income into the fund.

Of course, those who do not want to participate in it won't be required to be a part of it and won't be required to fund it. Instead, they can get their healthcare in other ways, like private insurance or pay as you go.

Seriously, why won't this work? Considering that Democrats outnumber Republicans in this country, and considering that Democrats are very compassionate to the downtrodden, the above should work like a charm. There should be plenty of people volunteering to support this program, not just with words, but with their money.

I wonder why such a program doesn't already exist on a massive scale? I mean, considering what a wonderful idea it is.

The people who want it struck down don't even know why they want it struck down. They just go off the talking points.

My health care costs more than quadrupled because people are paying nothing for the same insurance I have at my expenese. Thats why.

Well, we don't want those people participating in it anyway. Only those who really want this should be allowed to participate in it. Make it voluntary, and then we won't have to be associated with the goobers who don't want socialized health care. Let them fend for themselves.

Health care costs have been steadily increasing over the last few decades. Do you have employer based insurance?

That comment certainly goes a long way to explaining your uninformed position on the ACA.

Except that being able to opt out increases the cost of premiums. These people who opt out are gaming the system. They opt out so they don't have to pay into it, then when they get sick they jump onto a plan and get their health care paid for. That in turn can increase premiums for others.

That is easy to remedy. We will set the non-profit up to prevent that scenario. If you want in, you sign a contract and you are in for life. No option to get out.

"The virus outbreak catches Trump in a bind, caught between fulfilling a 2016 campaign promise and the unpopular real-world consequences of ending ACA subsidies and protections that have become more salient for voters as the law faces credible threat of termination. Trump has chipped away at provisions like the individual mandate to buy coverage, but the bulk of the law is still alive."

6 promises Trump has made about health care
    https://www.politico.com/story/2017/03/trump-obamacare-promises-236021

"No one will lose coverage. There will be insurance for everybody. Healthcare will be a “lot less expensive” for everyone — the government, consumers, providers."

    Where is that plan?

The case, which could be heard before the election, stands to be not only a major issue in the presidential race, but also puts congressional Republicans on the spot, as they have for years struggled to come up with an Obamacare replacement.

How do you figure. The ACA is exactly what I described. Simply a cost shifting scheme to make one group pay for another.

It's unfortunate John Roberts burned oxygen and helped enable that piece of criminality.

    Screw national healthcare.

The left trying to use C19 to protect their national healthcare system. Why not it was used to try and pass legislation about green environmental pet projects...

Amazing that the lefties on here keep serving up softballs to hit by posting things about their own dirty laundry...

Trump is following thru on his campaign promises. That must bewilder the left...they are not use to that with their folks...of course Joe won’t remember what he promised if he wins...

And if given the chance he will. He’s been a bit busy dodging fake impeachment’s and managing a over hyped pandemic. But have no fear, he is moving on it now. :)

Perhaps you could form you own mega group of liberals to insure under one umbrella. Problem solved. Just keep in mind they tend to be a fearful over reactionary group as a whole so expect a lot unneeded medical visits to cover! :)
