I am against the tyranny of a world government. I am even more opposed to the extremely intolerant, barbaric and backward-looking idea of imposing one language on the world.

Esperanto. Designed to be easy to learn by any Indo-European speaker and has no relationship to any ethnicity or nation and so won't be used to suppress minorities or local culture.

Spanish (Castilian) and any other language that isn't Mandarin would have to be taught to BILLIONS and would be hard to lean for non-Romance speakers. It would also give the Spanish an undeserved since of superiority and could be used to suppress small culture groups and minorities in Spanish speaking countries.

Esperanto is a neutral language and is the easiest to learn for the most people.

I'm not suggesting a MANDATORY language, I'm suggesting an official language, like in France, the official language is French, but people still speak others. Or the Americans, not everybody always speaks English there, do they? No.

Lokki, I'm guessing you're not native English speaking. The correct word is "Central" not "Centeral." (I wouldn't have posted this, but you keep repeating the same mistake).

That said, if we're going to have a world government, the government should be based in NYC, and the language should be English.

Well I'm opposed to any sort of world government, particularly one imposing a language. And considering this is an English language forum, I can see why English has the most votes. But currently, the most useful language in the world is English. It's hard to get around that.

I recall reading that the former Singaporan President, Lee Kuan Yew, was consulting with the Chinese government on economic policy. He suggested that they make English the official language of China. Of course, that didn't go over too well, but his argument is that English opens you up to the world market like no other. It's already a de facto international language. Businessmen from China dealing with India will conduct business in English. In fact, between any two non English speaking countries with low visibility for their languages, they probably conduct business in English. It makes the world go round.

We don't need any "world government". It's a foolish idea.

But English is the dominant international language. It's the language of international aviation, navigation, and business.

Doesn't half of Europe speak English as a second language?

When I grew up, French was the language of the Diplomatic Corps pretty much worldwide. English has replaced French. So that shows you how old I am. So English is probably it as it is has become the worlds common language.

Since it was English speaking people who brought us mass communication, the internet, air travel, etc, I think it should be English.

French. It is a more contemplative language than English in its very structure. English is already used as the international aviation language, so it would be the easier route to take I suppose. Well easier if you want to leave the french canadians out of this world government because they refuse to surrender their french, such as it is, even when the rest of their nation has been true to its heritage.

    Hahahahha. Oh boy.

Now you're getting the hang of it! Sovereignty in the nation state will soon be viewed with the same disgust as sovereignty in federal bodies (ie: states) is currently.

For the record, English and French are the two languages taught in every nation and spoken on every continent. (Including Antarctica, research bases)

Since I speak English, I will admit that my answer is prejudiced.
