Hello. I recently encountered someone who apparently has a strong negative view towards the NRA. He believes that they rate and pay politicians to block any move to limit the sale of firearms and that they are the propaganda arm of the gun manufacturers.

I was a bit surprised to hear this, because my own perception of the NRA was neutral to slightly positive. I had always thought that they did two things: 1. educate the public on gun safety and 2. trying to uphold the 2nd amendment. But apparently this person has strong conviction in his view, so now I am doubting myself a bit, too. I looked within myself and found that I actually know very little about the NRA. I don't know any real, card-carrying member of the NRA personally and what little I know of the NRA I had read from the internet. In other words I have no first-hand knowledge.

What is your view of the NRA? Do you agree with this person's assessment, or do you have something to say in defense of the NRA? Maybe you are even an actual NRA member yourself, in which case do you have anything to tell or maybe even teach us? Also, do you feel that the NRA contributes to our society positively or do you consider it to be a bad influence?

    Let's discuss.

The NRA is the primary reason the American people still retain meaningful gun rights.

This is why the left demonizes the NRA every chance it has.
