Why do you seem continually bewildered by the notion that we shouldn't celebrate former slave holders? You'd think in 2018 it would be a simple enough notion to grasp.

 

Couldn't you just celebrate them for other things?

I see celebrations of the black african tribes and leaders that sold the slaves, should we ban those? And we celebrate the United States which was former slave holders. What flag did the slaves in the United States look up and see?

Also as a minority I can tell you that my love for this country and that flag stems from my understanding that America while not always perfect continually strives to be better tomorrow than it was yesterday. I don't celebrate the slave holders. I celebrate the waves of immigrants who washed up on these shores seeking freedom and a better life for them and their families. Americans who worked together despite differences of origins or language or the color of their skins or the gender in their births to forge one of the greatest civilizations mankind has known. It's isn't perfect by any means but it will be better tomorrow if we embrace the ideals of those who fought for freedom against those who wished to profit off the backs of human misery.

 

Respond if you want or don't my desires are served either way. Either you don't because you can't or you do and I'm treated to another delightful snippet from the entertainer who brought me logic straight from the bible.

I know it seems strange but we actually do have a generation of children growing up in the south who think confederates were "good guys".

So you don't celebrate the United States before the Civil War.

Well that includes a whole lot of Southerns, many who came here as indentured servants. There were just more black slaves down here because the Northern states did not want a mass population of black africans in their states.
But the fact remains, the United States invaded the Confederacy to bring those states with their slavery back into the Union and slavery was legal in the United States during and after the war. The war was not about ending slavery.

 

But not slaveholders and United States citizens?
