Leaving such firearms available while prohibiting others that are in common use, and commonly available, would never pass constitutional muster. The united state supreme court stated as much in Heller and again in McDonald and Caetano when they stated that the second amendment was not limited to firearms that only existed during the time of the ratification, but rather extended and applied to all firearms that constitute bearable arms.

 

That "self-righteous arrogance" of those not on the far right is specifically because the nation is sick and tired of the right wing insanity.

 

Tell it to the individual states who have been unable to enforce their firearm registration laws against the public. These states dictated that certain firearms had to be registered to remain legal, the public refused to comply, basically telling the state governments what amounted to "**** you, you can't make us" and the state governments have not attempted to push the matter further. Even law enforcement has refused to enforce the registration mandate.
