I am not very comfortable in large groups. I communicate better in small groups.

I don't have a lot of time for small talk. If some one wants to talk, Ok but it probably won't be me starting it.

Don't like hanging out with a lot of people. A few is ok short term.
I like doing things by my self or with a few others.

I don't follow the crowd and I do my own thing.

I need to be alone to recharge.....
Anyone else kind of like this? or are you an extrovert?

I don't like parties. I tend to take a lot of bathroom breaks, just to get away for awhile. I hate to chat on the phone and I never know what to do or say around new people. I am rather reclusive by nature.

To be honest I think this whole introvert/extrovert dichotomy is a farce. True, some people prefer time on their own than time with groups - but when people act like there's some physiological difference that makes them need to "recharge" between social encounters, or social isolation if you're an extrovert - they take it too far.

Anyway, I'm an extreme introvert. Mainly because of my social anxiety.

Truth be told, I have my moments in which I could be described either way. I enjoy some private time occasionally, but I also enjoy being with a group. Variety, or balance between the two options, is the important thing, in my opinion. I have, at times, dreaded an upcoming social event, only to have a great time once I actually got there. I'm from a rather large family, and I do remember being somewhat quiet and shy when I was a very young child, but I soon outgrew that.

Im very much like that although I can function just fine in large groups I abhor it. I much prefer smaller more intimate groups. I also don't get the sports thing either. Im obviously in the minority there but I would rather be hiking or even doing yardwork outside. Im always baffled by the people who constantly ask why Im not watching the game as I am outside on a beautiful day. They think Im being socially weird but its me who kinda feels sorry for them. I actually had someone ask me while I was (no joke) on a Jet Ski, on a lake in maine on a perfect day why I wasn't inside watching a baseball game. Look there is no normal when it comes to this stuff. Everyone is different and not everyone likes the same thing. If we were all the same the world would be very boring and the lake would have been crowded with Jet Skis or the couch....
    I also like to "recharge"

I really hate being around people period. If I didn't have a need to express my opinions and learn about things I wouldn't even be on a discussion board like this at all in any way and just stay home and played computer games all day.

I have one friend that I do stuff with.

You see, the only thing I can count on is people's stupidity, the only thing most people do is get mad at me and yell and scream at me because I'm different than them in some way. I'm really tired of people doing that to me, all the while telling me about tolerance and acceptance and other kinds of craptastic hypocrisy.

It's a behavior that's so prevalent in American society these days, I really want nothing to do with the society.

Yeah I know, people are going to get upset at me over this post and go on and on about how it's not true and blah blah blah blah blah blah.

    Wizard's first rule.

I too am an introvert. I hate large parties and being around a bunch of random people. I don't mind having a couple friends over or something but if I go to a party where I don't know the majority of the people I get really uncomfortable really fast. I especially hate it when I go to a party with someone who knows everybody and I only know them. So my friend spends much of their time interacting with the others while I wander around trying not to look weird. I stopped doing that awhile ago, I won't go unless I know everybody as well.

I NEED my own space and I need a lot of it. I tried doing the roommate thing when I was younger and first starting out and I hated it. I need the other person to have somewhere to go that isn't in my house. Even if they are in their room being silent the fact that I know they are there drives me crazy. I know plenty of people who would go insane if they were alone for too long. Me I'm the complete opposite. I know plenty of people who trip over stuff to grab their phone when it rings or buzzes with a text message. Me, when my phone buzzes the first thing I think of is "Who in the hell is that and what do they want?" My phone routinely stacks up with like 10 voicemails from me not answering it. My friends and family get irritated and say things like "It's a cell phone how can you not answer it it's always with you...". Im like no it's a phone I don't carry the thing around the house with me all day if it's not in arms reach Im not getting up to get it. If whatever you wanted was important enough you would call back or leave a message. And phone numbers I don't recognize? Not a chance.

I know people are just different and this generation is all about the social media thing. I just laugh at that. I don't personally understand how people need to share every second of their existence with the world. I laugh when I go out to eat with friends and they all pause before the meal to take a picture of the food and post it on Facebook. It's food...people know what food looks like...just eat it. Or when people stop everywhere they go to post where they are on the internet. If you are going to the gym then you must tell everyone you are going to the gym. If you bench pressed 250lbs then you must tell everyone. Bought new shoes? Tell everyone. Going to the beach? Tell everyone. Had a bad day at work and want to just be left alone? Tell everyone so they can flood your facebook with comments that you can read because you really don't want to be alone you just want attention.

I just don't like sharing everything with people like that. I didn't even know what Twitter was until a few months ago. Well I heard of it but I didn't really know what it did. I kept hearing hashtag this and hashtag that, wtf is a hashtag? Oh Twitter is like the facebook status update thing so you can tell people that you just got out of the shower and are about to get dressed to go to work for 8 hours today...because...people care about that..? Gotcha.

I even overheard a group of people talking one time about relationships and were wondering if somebody was cheating. The guy asked "Well were they listed as together on Facebook?" As if that matters lol. So you mean relationships throughout history were all invalid until Facebook was invented and people could publicly declare their relationship status via the internet?

I just personally don't get it but I understand we are all different people. I have a Facebook and I get on there about once every 3 months much the the dismay of everyone. I do enjoy doing things with people but I also have zero issues with doing things by myself. Many people think that I am sad inside or lonely but it's the exact opposite. There have been numerous times when I would be out eating by myself and someone would come up and sit with me and ask why am I alone and am I ok and if I want to talk or something. I'm like...no I'm fine...Im alone because I was hungry and I decided to go and have dinner...Same thing with the movies during the rare times when I decide to go. The ticket counter person always gives me a weird look when I say "1 please". I'm going to the movies alone because I want to see the movie...That's not weird...is it?

Bottom line is that I thoroughly enjoy sitting around and doing things by myself. I enjoy it as much as an extrovert enjoys going out to a party. I sit here and drink by myself, no Im not depressed or an alcoholic, I just like to drink the way other people like to drink. I am by no means a mean person I am actually the polar opposite. I'm extremely nice to everyone. Many of my friends view me as being rude when I say I don't want to hang out with them today. They just cannot understand how I could not have anything to do but don't want them to come over. I routinely get asked "What are you doing tonight? Nothing? Alright I'll grab some beers and head over? What do you mean no thanks you just said you aren't doing anything? Is everything ok?" etc. It's nothing personal, Im just a loner.

I don't know really. I like to be by myself and do my own thing. I don't like parties but I would gladly hang out with my friends.

I don't know how many remember Michael Collins. He was an astronaut ont he Apollo 11 mission which of course is better known for Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Anyway while Buzz and Neil traipsed about on the moon's surface, Michael was aboard the command module orbiting the moon.

As Michael went around the dark side of the moon, all communications temporarily ceased. He was at that time, the most isolated human being to have ever existed. "I am alone now, truly alone, and absolutely isolated from any known life," Collins wrote in his 1969 memoir Carrying the Fire ."

I suppose there are times when a person can feel alone even in a crowded room, but Michael was, at that point in time, truly isolated, truly alone.

I've spent a great deal of time in solitude, studying/reading...not to say I'm some great intellectual, it's just to prepare for the career I chose, it required a great deal of time cloistered in a cubicle or room..staring at paper, at information..and trying to absorb that information.

Preferably, I enjoy being around people and having some sort of interaction with people. Even while studying alone, I had music on in the background, some sort of lifeline to humanity. I frequently fall asleep to either NPR on the radio or ESPN...a human voice. I suppose that is not the same as socializing in the context of actually talking and interacting with a person eyeball to eyeball; however I need people in my life in some form. I cannot tolerate true solitude, like what Michael Collins experienced.

I've gone camping alone and it's eery to me to be so isolated from people...I end up messing with the portable short wave radio I bring along just to hear a voice in the wilderness.

I suppose I am an extroverted introvert, but on different terms than somone who is truly social. I don't need constant interaction on the eyeball to eyeball level, but I need human contact in some form.

Not much tolerance for being truly alone.

You're not really introvert, at really not deeply ... usually an introvert [a real introvert] doesn't declare to be introvert in public [this is not an introvert behavior!].

Bingo! I'll take that a step further... a true introvert wouldn't be caught dead posting on an internet forum. Much less a POLITICAL forum this big! Might have other issues with real-world social situations, but I doubt it's because they're an introvert.

Here's a short quiz to tell whether your an introvert or extravert. Like most of us (I bet)... I'm a combination of both.

    Introvert or Extravert?

I know I am. I can handle being around people I know, people I am not expected to interact with (lets say a metal concert), but a party or open house?

Very much so. I'm on the autistic spectrum, so it kind of comes naturally.

However, I have become a lot more sociable in the last few years, so being an introvert isn't as much of a barrier these days, as I can tolerate large crowds for a certain amount of time. I still need my space, though, which is why I don't really stick around for long periods of time at parties or events.

I am like that. I am barely an introvert, but only am because I am shy with some self-esteem issues. If I had normal self-esteem, I think I'd be way extrovert. I love people.

I love being alone, I hate long groups and also hate (or love) what you hate (or love).

    So, yes, I'm introvert.

    The world needs more introverts.

I firmly believe that if there were more of us, humanity would be far more progressed scientifically and we would all be a lot more reasonable.

For me, I think the most introverted thing about me is that I HATE small talk. Despise it.
I do, however, love substantive discussions on non-personal topics. Which I guess is why I'm here.
