There are adults too sick or too old to take care of themselves properly.

I agree and it goes both ways. There are the groups that hate the left as much. We saw it with Obama’s choice of condiments, the tan suit and the birth certificate. Now it’s hamburgers (hamberders?), awkward handshakes and gawdiness. The loud minorities that allow themselves get outraged by this stuff capture the media’s attention.

I work with a ton of people with different views from me, including those on the extremes of either side. I can’t say I’ve ever had a negative experience discussing issues with any of them and no one has been as angry or hateful as we’re led to believe.

Some might end up ahead by living a frugal lifestyle in a small town, but others do quite well for themselves in the big city.

We are divided because half of our people look to the Soviet Union circa 1955 as " the good old days".

Yes, thanks to the fact that the health insurance industry has Americans by the short hairs and has for decades.

Why it should be more expensive? If you eliminate parasites (aka health insurers), the cost will be reduced at least 20%.

Sure, but that's what families are for.

Yes of course, those that are prepared via education or business prowess for the very high cost of housing etc. The rest will end up as urban poor - or returning to the farm, broke, at age 35.

Most leave and stay in the big city. They return to see family and friends.

So they all make a success of it, excellent. Hopefully they're not becoming 'life renters' and living from pay to pay like so many urban poor.

Families don't often have $8k/month for 24-hour care.

No, I mean families should be doing it themselves. How do you think people did it before nursing homes were invented? Or how they still do it in other cultures, where nursing homes are frowned upon?

    Naive.

Medicare costs 100x what it was expected to cost when the program was proposed. It is not self-sufficient. It is subsidized by private insurance policies which pay more to medical providers so Medicare can pay less.

Government is not as efficient as the private sector. Government is always a cluster.

That's fine, but what about the people who don't have family members willing or able to care for them? My father had dementia, broken hips that limited his mobility, and he weighed 250 lbs.
    You don't know, do you?

Medicaid takes care of indigent senior--nearly half of Medicaid spending.

We pay more than we should for "the best" (for those who can afford it).

I am not sure there even were nursing homes, and certainly no government funded nursing homes, where I grew up. Your grandmother, like mine, died in your mother's house. The elderly who had no children of course didn't have this option, but they weren't dying in the street.
