Why Do Islamists Hate Music?

Islamists, like most religious extremists, hate almost everything. Why does this surprise you? Hardcore Christians seem to hate music too, judging by Christian rock.

 

Nothing surprises me anymore. Especially when it comes to Islamists.

 

This is the kind of misleading topic title I would expect a fanatic hater to use as a headline on an anti-Islam propaganda site, in here I have somewhat higher expectations - at least that the headline isn't proven wrong in the opening comment.

So, you're going to stand guard in front of musicians houses 24/7???

Btw, people, even "invaders" are not "fleas" - a nice touch of dehumanisation.

Um... But wouldn't you be the invaders in this case? Actually, in pretty much all the cases...

 

You guard your own house. Whether you are a musician or not. And when those who are enemies against you show up, you shoot them. And some people are worse than fleas. They kill other people.

An interesting thing about this thread is the almost exclusive use of the word "Islamist", as opposed to "Muslim". An Islamist is, by definition, an extremist. But the distinction is blurred by the OP, even as Islamists attack Muslims. The article says, "“What we wishfully call ‘radicalism’ is in fact the Islamic mainstream.” Yet later the article mentions " Malian musician, Rokia Traore, says that although she is a Muslim, “Sharia is not my thing.” and "Traore and Mali’s other musicians and freedom-lovers – mostly Muslims – are fighting against the implementation of Sharia in their country." But the article clearly tries to paint them all with the same brush, cleverly equivocating Islamist (radical Islam, the oppressors) with Muslim (regular Islam, like the oppressed musicians). If, as the article implies, all Islam is Sharia-Jihad extremism, these musicians would be cutting off their own heads.

2. How so? You are American, live in America, and would be in Mali as an American soldier. Sounds like an invader to me, as I don't think the government or people would have invited you there.

 

Islamists is really not a very good word to describe the "radicals".. since they rarely know the tenets of their own faith.. They are more of a gangster mentality.

 

Perhaps, but it is an ideal word to use when one is trying to be duplicitous. It is an excellent way to be able to truthfully say "All Islamists are radicals", but make it sound like "All Muslims are radicals" to those for whom Islamist just sounds like a synonym for Muslim.
