The bolded is actually entirely backwards. Withholding praise for only the most special and groundbreaking moments of your child's life is what creates that problem of high expectation you brought up. Boosting your child's self-esteem (through constant and sincere praise) is what will encourage them to take risks, try new things, and work hard. Not the other way around.

Like his parents, a child has an egotistical side which loves to be lied to; and when parents have no love, they sometimes try to get it from their children by feeding him or her sweet little lies.

Where do you get the idea that the only alternative to that is to cultivate in the child an inflated sense of self-worth?

Wrong. Children tend to live up - or down - to the expectations others have of them. I thank god my parents had very high expectations for me.

It's cultural Marxism, no winners or looser's in a perfect Marxist utopia.

But without a looser, you can't have a winner. So the end game, everyone looses under cultural Marxism.

Like everything else there has to be a balance. However, if you have to err on one side or another, go for too much praise rather than not enough praise.

You are correct! This day an age every kid is supposed to have a trophy. With that said then why even bother? ...if all kids get a trophy then at least make them different sizes for accomplishment....oh I hope I didn't hurt anyones feelings by my last statement.

When I was a kid I WANTED/STRIVED for that "Big One!" ...now it's about not hurting anyones feelings. I call that Wussy BS!!! ...Grow up Parents! ....and while you're at it let your kids grow up also!!

I think most parents probably BELIEVE that their children are more accomplished than they actually are. Haven't you ever heard the saying, "a face only a mother could love?" Parents love their children unconditionally.

There are winners and losers though. The winners are those who control the flow of wealth and goods because they have the power to dictate whatever they please and the peons below them have no choice but to obey.

To late to go back and fix it now.

But I was referring to the liberal lie that everyone is a winner that there should be no goals in life, no competition in life. It has gone as far as no contact sports and no scores being won in sporting events, everyone wins, everyone gets a trophy. Your son or daughter comes home with their report car with five "D's" and telling him or her how smart they are and keep up the good work, BS. It's gone as far that some schools don't even give out grades, everyone passes.

Even Bruce Springsteen yells out to the crowd, "Nobody wins unless everyone wins." Just another liberal lie while Bruce laughs his way to the bank.

There's always room for improvement. In a capitalist society there will always be winners and losers. But with the American form of capitalism, one can get knocked off his feet but can still get back up on his own and compete again.

Remember the old American saying, "keeping up with the Jone's." ? It's Americana, American culturalism. Well it use to be.

Ever hear of the Mexican crab story, keeping the Lopez's down ? AKA: "Crab Mentality"

Don't let them keep you down. Look at the Democrat Party, look at their platform. Without poverty the Democrat party wouldn't have a platform. The Democrat party is dependent on poverty, they need poverty for their political party to survive. Why do you think liberals want open borders and amnesty ? Guess who's policies are keeping the people down ?

Between pleasant lies and unpleasant lies?

What makes you think one is less poisonous than the other?

Yeah, that reminds me of the seven year old who got turned into hamburger decades ago, along with her idiot father, who thought she was accomplished enough to pilot a plane.

yes but equally detrimental is not instilling confidence in your children. You need to be in the middle.

A lot of Democrats and liberals are those very same Marxists who believes the ends justify the means, and their end goal is the abolition of capitalism and the constitution.

To that end, these things are being done to weaken capitalism and the constitution.

And they will continue to do so in any way possible.

Our children are our seed. They are an extension of our genetics. If our kids arent great then that means neither are we. Nobody wants to believe that.

Every parent wants to treat their children like princes and princesses. The problem is that princes and princesses are destined to be kings and queens. If you let them live in a bubble where they recieve no criticism and are praised for every little thing they do, they will drive the kingdom into the ground.

The reason kids can't cope with life isn't because of their parents' encouragement (unrealistic or not). It is because the world we have created is predicated on an unnecessary and antiquated education system combined with a vast over stimulation of too much instant access to information and entertainment avenues that distract them from actually being able to focus on life.

Telling your child she's perfect regardless, is the EASY way to parent. Must not upset the poor child;) Witness Millenials!! And its getting worse. One need only watch the first week of American Idol to see how many parents do their kids a disservice. Being HONEST with your children is the best medicine. The number of delusional parents is astounding. My wife laughs(on the inside) at them when they speak about how brilliant they are, when she knows for a fact how completely average most of them are. The truly special ones don't have parents who gush all over them.

I guess you'd rather have a dog-eat-dog, winner takes all individualist world, which we are dangerously close to already. In that utopia, children are taught that only winning counts and if they are not winning, they only have themselves to blame, so they should shut up and lick the boots of their capital-holding overlords.

    CLOWARD-PIVEN STRATEGY (CPS)

How to create a social state – The Cloward-Piven Strategy:
There are eight levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state.

#1. Healthcare– Control healthcare and you control the people.

#2. Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

#3. Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

#4. Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government. That way you are able to create a police state

#5. Welfare – Take control of every aspect of their lives. (Food, Housing, and Income)

#6. Education – Take control of what people read and listen to us“ take control of what children learn in school.

#7. Religion – Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools.

#8. Class Warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to take (Tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

He shouldn't have to release his college transcripts.

And forcing crisis is nothing new, not just for Obama.

    Interesting perspective.

I might be true if there is very little real teaching associated with the encouragement.

Naturally valid confidence comes from real understanding of challenges, then testing the knowledge to see it work.
