Why exactly are Muslims offended by/dont celebrate Christmas?

Ive heard "merry christmas" offends Muslims because they dont celebrate it. But that doesnt make sense to me, for a number of reasons.

Muslims believe Jesus was a great prophet, and despite believing he wasnt God or didnt die on the cross-the Jesus in the Quran is virtually almost the same as the Christian Jesus-both lived in Israel and were born of the virgin Mary and preformed miracles. So why dont Muslims celebrate Christmas?

When I was a kid the Arabs use to manage the livestock... camels, goats, donkeys, burros and sheep.. for our huge Christmas pageant.. and they were always friendly and happy about doing it. For our Christmas parade Santa would arrive on a camel and they thought that was great fun. They also drove the flatbeds for our caroling and hayrides.

I am not sure its universally true that they hate Christmas. We used to wish them happy Eid or happy Ramadan and they'd wish us Merry Christmas.. As an aside, I was sick all last week and two Jewish ladies showed up with Matzo ball soup and Merry Christmas wishes. That Matzo ball soup is like a drug,, sure made me feel better.

IMO when your religion makes you hateful, you are in the wrong place.. and should reexamine your faith.

To some extent, Mechanic's answer is right, most muslims don't get offended and as a media consuming non-muslim without very much involvement with muslims in everyday life, you hear about the ones that make a fuss.

The second thing is the fact that people are assumed to be Christians. This tends to annoy people of lots of different non-Christian, and sometimes even Christian ideas. It's about the fundamental idea that in a nation with freedom of religion, the experience of living should not depend on your religion. It probably shouldn't be overstated, though. Society has not adapted to today's media. People have a hard time telling the difference between an outrage and someone blogging about an angle on some idea that they find interesting.

 

I've known many Muslims.
I didn't know any Muslims who were offended if someone wishes them a "Merry Christmas."

In fact, I know Muslims who celebrate Christmas. Jesus is, afterall, considered a prophet in Islam.

 

I struck up a conversation with a Muslim man and his wife the other day at our local shopping centre. Him and I talked about the shopping madness during Christmas. His wife had a shopping trolly full of stuff. Upon leaving, they wished me Merry Christmas.

 

Well it depends. Is beheading a child for being christian enough evidence? There are pictures and videos that Id rather not look at again but if you cant google it yourself I could post them provided the mods allow it. Id much prefer you find them yourself as once you watch them you can never un watch them.

 

Sounds like your experience of Muslims is pretty limited.

Perhaps. From my chair if even a fraction of Muslims were against Isil then every member of isil would be on a pike by tomorrow. So I infer their deafening silence as agreement. Obviously I hope you can prove or show me that Im wrong. I would be pleased to know that a large percent of humans really are humans.

If christians were beheading muslims would you be defending them? Eeefffff noooo....you guys cant even stomach to say Merry Christmas. Real muslims don't celebrate their own birthdays and they would never celebrate Christmas because that makes Jesus a partner to Allah, which is not allowed.

How many examples would you like? There's no shortage of them out there....there is no 'silence' from Muslims on the subject at all.

 

Including historically the puritans. You know, that bunch on the Mayflower and their brothers who banned the celebration of Christmas in the UK.

The idea of "under God" in the pledge flies in the face of the Constitution. As for courthouses....if they are exclusive then it is a clear violation of the 1st amendment. Sorry you hate the Constitution.

 

A newspaper isnt going to defeat ISIL. What actions have they taken? Like I said if the majority of Muslims do not agree with them then by sheer numbers alone this is over tomorrow. So why arent the majority of muslim men standing up to them?

 

actions speak louder than website links. When are all the muslim men in your links planning on joining forces and actually defeat ISIL. All we see is ISIL beheading people and getting away with it. When will the muslims plan on attacking them? With the sheer numbers they could do it with sticks.
