Obama inherited a recessed economy. Welfare and unemployment increase as natural stabilizers to weak economies. That is WHY they exist. Reagan's policies destroyed the middle class. Trickle down just allowed the wealthy to keep more of the income.
I'll keep it simple. Extremists hate the rich. The enlightened joe hates the rich because they distort our "democracy." The rich line the pockets of Congressmen and shift the power of representation away from the people. Lobby shapes our policies to further enrich the wealthy at the EXPENSE of the middle class. The average conservative / republican (for sake of argument) is already more inclined to believe in fantasies and religion.. so the rich preach to them of the dream that every man can achieve wealth. To put it bluntly, the GOP is currently the party of the rich. They survive by convincing a lot of low-income constituents that the government is out to get them. They preach of inevitability of enslavement to China, a collapsed monetary system, a takeover of illegal immigrants, and a Muslim black communist president, to instill fear in their constituents. You can call my bluff on this statement, but I can find a piece of evidence for EVERY accusation. Just pay attention to the details in the GOP campaigns. I'm apparently looking forward to a future that contains a communist government, a majority illegal Mexican population, 80% of the population on welfare, all our money being owed to China, and an armed rebellion to liberate "real America" from all of these problems.
. There's no one in this country starving to death. In fact it's hard to find a skinny person. If wealthy people earn their money then why not let them decide what they want to do with it. Do you want someone telling you what to do with your money? Do you have any other reason why you hate rich people?
I suggest you study history and take notice of the economy Reagan inherited from Carter. Reagan put us on an economic growth not seen since the end of WW2. Obama's policies have further slowed our economy from the Bush recession. Just facts. So why do you hate rich people?
The point, IIRC, is made by Dinesh D'Souza in the recent debate with convicted terrorist (and friend of Barack), Bill Ayers. Basically, America has a tradition of business people becoming successful and even wealthy without preying on and victimizing the poor and lower middle class. Where Barack grew up business people are rated next to the lowest class in society. They suffer from, perhaps, a deserved bad reputation by everyone in society. So when he came here he was laboring under THAT foreign paradigm. He still does. Look at how he has dealt with businesses here since he became POTUS. He taxed them as much as he could. His telling business owners they "didn't build this" is likely true or truer in Indonesia or in Europe than in America, but still resonates with millions as a personal slap in the face by the POTUS who obviously was wrong and wrong-headed. He has done what he could get away with to complicate life for business owners and especially small business. This has affected his tax policies, his unemployment numbers, his entitlements philosophy. Three areas of MAJOR disagreements with Conservatives. But don't trust my summary, listen to D'Souza explain it. It is a brilliant bit of observation and analysis, IMHO.
It's best to listen to someone who is successful rather than joining complainers. If someone is wealthy I would rather seek their financial advice than hate them. Note: This thread is not about public policy. Go back and read the original post. Any other subject is an attempt to hijack the post. You want to discuss public policy -- start your own post.
Don't blame the 1% for America's pay gap. http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2012/04/24/pay-gap-rich-poor/
I don't bend over and allow myself and society to be raped because the 1% have money. Like I said, a rich person doesn't have any more RIGHTS than I do.
I also know that Reagan expanded DEFICIT SPENDING and GREW THE GOVERNMENT at an unprecedented rate ever seen. Won't cling to those facts, will you? Reagan TRIPLED the national debt, and you praise him. Obama's tea party parrots convinced the country that austerity spending cuts would grow the economy (the exact OPPOSITE of how Reagan turned the economy around), yet you hold the two to different standards. I'm sorry for exposing you as a hypocrite.
You don't get out much. Cut out the homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and welfare, and you will have people on the side of the highway starving. That is what you right-wingers advocate.
It's strange however that to build this wonderful nation, americans had to exterminate the previous inhabitants. Apart from this, America is a vast continent, plentiful of resources, and most of all, it is extremely young. That's the reason why your businnessmen didn't need to prey on others in the first time. However it seems things are changing... i'm looking forward to see if your premise will keep true.
Save it. This is an unsubstantiated finance blog that praises the rich. It doesn't address the hordes of millennials in my generation that are technologically savvy, college educated, have loads of student loan debt, and make (*)(*)(*)(*) wages in their field of study. - - - Updated - - - My problem is the lobbying, not rich individuals. Big Oil and Big Pharma like to lobby their tails off in Congress. I could care less about how much someone makes. More power to them. Just don't lobby our elected officials to make policy decisions in the interest of the few at the expense of the masses.
So because of the above no one is starving. Like I said. And of course that's still no reason to hate rich people.
Those rich people (the Koch brothers), are LOBBYING to remove those services and benefits so they can keep MORE of their own money. I have a serious issue with that.
So, Reagan spent all that money. Have you ever once thought about what he received in exchange for that money spent? How about just the dissolution of the Evil Empire? The Cold War ended because Reagan outspent the Soviets and they were finally able to see that we could outspend them for arms and they sought a different relationship with us. Don't you think that was worth it? Or maybe you only read about the Cold War.
So defend the rich at the expense of all the middle class children trying to expand their toolkit to be globally competitive? Nice try.
I didn't ask for excuses. I said knock off the double standards and accept the truth. You blame Obama for spending too much. In reality he has spent a pittance compared to other presidents. View attachment 25280 But it is ok for Reagan to spend into oblivion. Don't ask me what is worth it. I ask you to come correct with your claims and not move goal posts to fit your narrow worldview.
