Why do we always have to accomadate the weakest among us. It's holding our country back from being great we should allow the strong to strive. And besides who gives a (*)(*)(*)(*) if some lamo in a chair can't access the pool. But new rules are driving those with pools to close them to the rest of us for fear of being sued.

Wonder why your hotel pool is closed blame the government, it's Obuma's fault.

Because one day you will also be old and need a chair lift. Then you be among the oldie minority shagging angry fist at the president of the day.

Why go you complain about other disadvantaged people when you are showered with benefits and assistance ?
Did anybody try to prevent you becoming a member of this Forum ?
No . Of course not .
People decided that opportunities should be open to all and that it would be wrong to discriminate against you .
Good luck with your challenge .

Why should hotels be forced to install mechanical chair lifts?

Because one of the limitless supply of bureaucrats thought that following through on something so hearwarming might get him promoted.

Really dunno what to think about it... I can picture myself sitting at the pool of Grande Lakes JWM with a drink after a day's work, taking in the view... all of a sudden, an old gentleman being loaded into the pool in front of me... Would it spoil the moment for me? Absolutely. Something to ponder on...

that's why we survived as a specie, our ability to care for the weakest among of the group...without that social bond we would have never evolved to the level of sophistication that we have....

Slyhunter, how would you feel if you were in a wheelchair but couldn't access the pools because the hotel didn't have the proper equipment?

I guess I'd be as mad with Mt Everest because i couldn't climb it. I'd really be P O'd at Honda/Suzuki/Harley et al because I could not climb onto a 2 wheel bike

It is really terrible that hotels should be able to cater for the old and the disabled. What kind of society are we when we have to force hotels to do that? Slyhunter, would you really like the old and disabled to walk up the stairs? Would you like US army veterans with no legs to crawl up the stairs to their hotel room? Really?

Most people in wheelchairs can't swim, so what's the point of this regulation?

I wonder how long it takes to become as decent. understanding, and unselfish a human being as you.

An example of government over reach. Let hotel owners decide if they want to install such devices. No one has a "right" to use a privately owned pool.

Since you were too unintelligent to understand what he said I'll try to dumb it down for you.
We can't be making sure that all of our weaker elements (old and handicap) can do anything and everything that a healthy person can do. They just have to understand they can't and not do it. Like Climbing mountains, riding motorcycles or horses, or diving into pools. Especially when the alternative is that nobody will be able to swim because the pool owner can't afford the $12,000 to retrofit it with a lift and instead have to close the pool in fear of being sued.

Was that simple enough for you to understand because I don't think I can dumb it down any more than I already have. (*)(*)(*)(*) I know it's my fault for assuming other people have intelligence but they keep proving me wrong. That's what I get for assuming huh.

if your legs aren't strong enough to get into the pool, they're not strong enough to swim. what are they going to do? sit in the shallow end and splash water around?

This is already law, in many nations or even all.

For the disabled, for access to high floors, building entrances/exists etc... with ramps, and whatever else is used.

Chair lifts seems an extension of this. Although why the fuss some have to feel it is 'forced' seems harsh. Many people probebly rely on extra services when they travel.
