    Sure.

Go to worldofmeters. Divide the current "deaths" (128,237) by the total resolved, i.e. deaths + recovered. That is 128,237 + 1,082,212 = 1130449.

    So 128237/1130449 = 11.34%.

Now, you need to take into account that some states, like Florida and California, do not report recoveries. You can estimate that number conservatively by just subtracting the case count from today by the case count from one month ago. You can also estimate that number aggressively by assuming that 80% of the case count for those states from 2 weeks ago have recovered.

When you add those ~240,000 recoveries into the count, you get a mortality rate of around 8.3%.

Hey I do my part weekly to help. I run around my front yard arms failing in the air yelling hysterically for 1 hour.

I reckon I've saved 4000-5000 people so far doing it.

I go on the internet and try and tell everyone they are going to die if they leave their house, make up symptoms akin to ebola or hemorragic fever, and tell everyone its all Trumps fault....

Wait no I dont.... Im not a liberal.

I literally walked you through the math. But sure, go by the CDC website that still finds Covid-19 to be several times more deadly than the seasonal flu.

Sure ... that's how it's done. Preserve essential supply lines, but shut everything else down.

That keeps rolling, yes. If it can't, find another way. Quite a few countries stopped their supply chain, and survived.

The metric of stats - which has you squarely in the number one position so far.

No, but we will have a functional economy long before countries who surrendered to the virus.

The US is #1 in total cases, new cases, active cases and total deaths.

    Take your pick.

But not on a per capita basis. Surely you would want to normalize the statistics by the population size.

We are doing pretty well on the death per confirmed case statistic, too.

Everything is connected. Essential goods and services are provided by companies that profit also from nonessential goods and services. When they eat it on the nonessentials and go under, they stop providing the essentials too. In effect, all goods and services are essential in an interconnected economy. Shutting any of it down threatens it all.

By that metric, we're in the top 10. However, the countries with a higher death rate to date have a lower new case rate, so we'll be gaining on them.

Right. We are not the worst. We may catch up, but maybe the countries currently doing better than us will catch up, too.

No matter how you twist it, there's no excuse for the richest and most powerful nation on earth to have failed so comprehensively. If poorer and weaker nations could do it, America should have been able to - easily.

Yes, that's how it works in the good times. In a crisis, it's adapted to circumstances .. obviously.

They're losing the argument as to why to keep everything locked down. If people knew that far more have recovered from COVID than died, they would be able to see through this hysteria. Yes, the virus is bad but its not killing everyone. In fact, far from it. 4 million globally have recovered from the virus, 1.2 million of those in the US.

It's a way to play on people's emotions, just like a doomsday-esque film.

If every state followed the strategy of the northeast states, we would have very few infections left.

instead States chose to open up too early and now we have like 30,000 new cases a day.

    We are pathetic

You have done well with your deaths. Considerably better than Italy, Spain, the UK and France. I was a bit surprised by that. However it may be that you have not been including non hospital deaths. That is one of the things that makes a difference in the death toll - whether people report them or just those who die in hospital.
