Yeah but in order for a planet to sustain life it has to protect it from ultraviolet radiation , Earth does that through her magnetic field , Mars lost his magnetic field like 500m years after his formation so even if life was there the time margin would probably only allow single cell organisms to evolve but nothing more complex .

So they are trying to be the first to Mars in order to show there was life on Mars? Good for them but ..... wondering ..... why is this a something they would be "busting their budgets" over?

 

I'm sure you're familiar with War of the Worlds. No doubt it was a veiled true story meant to teach us the importance of getting to Mars and securing their superior technology and/or allegiance. The first nation there will win the prize, so to speak, and dominate the Earth with Martian help.

It would be a huge political coup and possible an economic coup If the nation getting there first could somehow lay claim to Mars and it's assets. Why did the United States put such a high priority to get to the Moon before the U.S.S.R. ? In this case it was for political purposes and to prove our technological superiority. Also. the first nation on Earth to make actual contact with an Alien civilization has unimagined implications.

 

I have alien technology in my garage. Pay me enough money and I will allow India to come visit it without having to deal with the two year trip and hazards of space.
