Since when does anyone take "stuff" they read on Twitter as serious thought, I doubt that the vast majority care one iota if a black girl plays Annie, I am surprised one has not done so already. She looks the part to me, see no problem.

Probably because MLK is a historical figure, MLK was black, and MLK lived not so long ago in terms of history. There is still at least 1 generation that was around when MLK was alive.

What's even more ironic than Annie turning black (never cared to watch the remake of that classic), is the Human Torch on Fantastic Four...

First he's a white guy
[IMG]

Then he catches fire, burns up, and turns into a black guy. It's almost like a crude joke from the producers...

Yes, I do and you know this if you did more in this thread than post standard "white people are being oppressed" tripe.

Well when you make (*)(*)(*)(*) like that up, I can't take you serious. I've made one post in this thread, and wrote about the Human Torch going from white to black, and didn't complain. Maybe you could pay more attention.

Especially when his sister is white. Yes I know adoption. Whats next a transvestite invisible woman . Having a black guy play Ralph in the Honeymooners is another. Next they will make Amos and Andy with white guys. Funny thing is the original before TV were two white guys.

Man I used to love this show

Next they will remake our gang with a white Buckwheat and a black Spanky

Meh, what else can you expect when Will Smith and Jay-Z produce a movie. LOL...

Amos and Andy was a great show... I believe producers wanted to make the next Thor a girl. This has just gotten corny. I prefer originality. If they need female superheroes and black superheroes then make new ones. That's keeps things original. What's next, a gay Hulk?

Sorry, I read your post. I think I must've just been focusing on the fact that you likely didn't read any of the posts in this thread.

I withdraw the "tripe" portion of my post.

Can't anyone just write an original script any more? That seems to be the bigger problem here.

Surely. I didn't see this this version of Annie due to the obvious agenda.

This wasn't just the regular mode of operation, historically. White actors are still cast in roles about people who are/were minorities in real life. White actors do play Hispanics, blacks, and other minorities. The fact that there are a limited number of roles for minority actors that are not stereotypical, has been an ongoing battle. You can't legitimately say the same in reverse. MLK's race and discrimination against black people would be integral to the plot of any movie about King's life and The Civil Rights Movement. Therefore, it's not equivalent to changing the race of Annie or even Fat Albert (where race isn't part of the storyline).

Depends on how you define flop.

The film grossed about $134 million worldwide with $89 million in the U.S. and the rest from around the world. It was ranked third on its opening weekend behind Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. Pretty good company when you compare Annie to these two movies.

Granted the critics didn't like Annie, but then again, critics didn't like War Room either, which I thought was a pretty good movie.

so only a black person could ever play him? because we have to be historically accurate? there is no room for interpretation?

only a black man can play the role of a black man? only a black man can police a black man? only a black man can represent a black man?

doesn't this defy EVERYTHING that MLK stood for...

why does the movie have to be about race and civil rights... why can't it just be about his family without the racism... why can't it be about his religious beliefs, which don't include racism... why can't it be about so many other aspects of his life that did not include racism... why does it always have to be black and white... thats kinda the point... and lets say it was about racism... why can't a white person play that role... WHY would it be wrong if a white person said and believed all the things he did... why must the actor be black to play MLK... you see how its nothing more than racism that says he must be?

P.S. to further the image for you... why can't a story about MLK's life be made... and white people in the movie are all black, and black people in the movie are all white... to reverse the roles... do you not think there would be an INSANE outrage over a movie like that? would they not call it racist and wrong? they would say its demeaning and insults black people who struggled... they wouldn't view it as art, they would call it racism... so why is it okay when we belittle or mock white culture? but you can't touch black culture now? why is racism okay one way? it shouldn't be accepted or okay in any way...

Annie is a fictional WHITE character.

- - - Updated - - -

Why is it there can be a black culture and black art but not white culture and white art?

Imagine the film Ali or the Hurricane being played by a white guy ? Its almost as bad as having a blond haired blue eyed Jesus

but why shouldn't a white man be able to play those roles... because of racism... thats the only reason why... its not because it'd have been a good remake or a bad remake, we don't know... theres nothing saying a remake of a "white" movie would be bad as a "black" movie... but we would allow it... but we wouldn't allow a white actor to play a black character without TREMENDOUS cries of racism and horrible evil white people taking over... why, because its racist only one way in america now... a white man can't represent a black man, a white man can't arrest a black man, a white man can't play the role of a black man... only a black man can do it... sounds familiar? black lives matter right... thats the logic... racism...

P.S. I never watched Ali... but I heard it got amazing reviews... not because will smith is black... but he's just damn good at what he does...

Because its not historically accurate . These are iconic figures. Are you suggesting Im prejudice against white men ?
Its fascinating because Ali was a hell of man as was Rubin Hurricane Carter.

I'm suggesting, there is NO reason any color actor can't play any other color figure in history... just because someone was white, black, hispanic, or otherwise, should not mean nobody BUT that color or race or however people want to classify it, can play that role... why can't a black actor play george washington? why can't a white actor play MLK? only racism stands in the way of that happening... historical accuracy clearly is not needed in hollywood, did you watch selma, boy did they take a lot of liberties about historical accuracy... and there was some chatter on here about it even, but in the end, it was blown off because black people can do what they want, and white people can not... hence... racism is a one-way street in america today... if racism was wrong, we should reject it in EVERY instance of life, not just the ones we're afraid to speak up over, because we'll instantly be labeled sexist, racist, homophobic... MLK would roll in his grave today if he knew this was the result of what he gave his life fighting for... this isn't what he meant by equality... this is the exact opposite of it... he even warned us of this...

Because you only know his name due to the racial controversies that shaped his life and persona ... and many people are interested in historical accuracy, especially when it comes to events that had such a profound impact on our nation. Why not make Hitler black? Why not make a movie about how The Hundred Years War was a battle between Egyptian monarchs? We could make any such variation of ridiculous movies but we would have to call them fiction because they would no longer be about reality ... or the people who they were supposed to be about. I'm incredulous if you believe that making movies about reality is racism and I completely disagree with you. I wonder if you know the definition of racism.

I would suggest that you saying that only a black actor can play a historical black figure is racist...

while it may be historically accurate, that doesn't mean its not racist to suggest only a black man can play a back character in history...

you're basically saying a white actor would be inferior... thats racism...

how you justify or rationalize racism does not negate racism... just because a black or white person in history did something, doesn't mean someone else can't or shouldn't be allowed to play the role... fiction or non-fiction...

but thats not the reality we have today... as you keep trying to defend... and rationalize and justify it...

so why can't a white actor have the privilege of playing a black character? simply because he's white? and that goes against historical accuracy? so anything that violates historical accuracy, should be shut down and is criminal? or is it okay when a black man plays a white man? one-way racism... black men played the role of president, before there was ever a black president... so since that violates historical accuracy, we should never have allowed any movie thats done so?

we can keep drawing this out... bottom line... anyone should be able to play any role... historical or not... but thats not how america works right now... its a one-way racism supporting nation... which like I've said, is sad and goes against everything MLK has taught us... ironic we never learned his lesson... instead we substituted it for legal discrimination... horrific result...

P.S to demonstrate your logic... no white school would ever be able to do a historical play, unless they had black students for the "correct" roles... and no black school would ever be able to do a historical play, unless they had white students for the "correct" roles... that would kinda change many drama departments across this nation who do historically accurate plays, except students play different races because those are the students they have...

The movie has been made, did great in the box office, generated sales when thedcd was released, was a hot item On Demand for months and us old news now. Any American would know that.
You guys are talking about a news net link, not responding to some outraged American flipping out over black Annie.
Is this registering at all??
