Oh enough with the bull. Most members join post a few time and leave. You cant look at the aggregate of members since the vast majority of "members" never really become part of the community.

The small group of repeat offenders you are talking about are the people who actually post here.

Find me members who have a few thousand posts in the political forums and a clean records. As Cubed was saying before his friends in the staff told him to backtrack his statement you might as well try and find unicorns.

But no no no what he was really talking about is how people dont want to join staff and that whole post after post bemoaning how hard to find posters with good records was only secondary. Hell it wasn't even true at all. There are so many active members with clean records it shouldn't have even been mentioned in the first place. OOPS.

If you believe that bull I have some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.

Its not a question of long term growth its that there is no peak during the election. These forums peak every 4 years. This cycle nothing. This forum has flat-lined.

Perhaps it's because people cannot believe the only options we will have is Trump or Hillary!

    I can't believe it!!

Perhaps its because nobody wants to be here anymore. We are getting constantly hit up for money but no sign that anything will change.

Yes. The 2 points are part in parcel. Good record. And wants to do it. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I do admit that I'm not sure how many members with crap records would be interested because they never got nominated.

And you are right in that I'm not a staff member anymore so any changes since are out of my purview. It would be great if others chimed in but I doubt you'd get anything more then what I've told you.

    Well I enjoy it here.

And I have many friends on this forum and they enjoy it here.

So the question begs if you hate it here so much...why are you here?

There are members who've been here for years and have never come close to an infraction. And not just a few, a lot of them.

That's a good point,..obviously, the less someone posts, the less likely they are to make a post that violates the rules.
However, active posters with clean records still aren't quite as rare as unicorns.
Looking at this week's current top 30 posters (greater than 178 posts this week), 40% have zero infractions.
And all but two of them have greater than 2,000 posts total.

We ask such members if they'd be willing to become staff on plenty of occasions,...and even posters whom may have a few infractions, or infractions which are super old,...
...again most (I would say around 90% or so) either decline or never respond at all! What Cubed said is correct.
A user's willingness to join the staff team is a super important factor as to whether a member becomes staff or not...
    And why wouldn't it be?!

So the repeated statements from the staff both in public and private of "most" "majority" were false and simply hyperbolic crap made up on the spot for the sake of argument and not in anyway true.

    Thank you for clarifying that.

To clarify even more, what other staff and ex-staff have been saying is that most members in general have a pretty clean record, but of course to your point that would also include members who for whatever reason haven't posted that much. I assumed this differentiation was understood....The 40% number only applies to the most active members, and only to those with zero infractions. That percentage of course rises if one includes also members who only have one or two infractions, but either way, my, and the rest of the staff's, point is made,...that being that there are posters out there with clean records, and as I explained a whole 40% of the most active posters have zero infractions, the issue is finding posters who not only have such a clean record, but who also accept the position.

What, /fi.lɛ/? I actually never knew that (I use British English and I've never heard anyone pronounce "fillet" in AmE). That's surprisingly culturally sensitive, given the stereotypes about the US and all.

I'd like to add that a member's attitude is also a serious consideration for new staff. A member that's overly confrontational, rude and shows a lack of consideration will generally not be considered for a staff position.

And those limeys call a car hood a bonnet, so feminine wouldn't you say.

Ever wonder why limeys will not call a french fry a french fry ? They call them chips.

Generally, it seems that the members with clean records and the one's with good attitudes are usually one in the same.
Not all the time of course,...I can think of a few instances where members with clean records were extremely rude,...but usually that isn't the case.

A mod can kill a forum with a smile and a thank you. It doesn't matter how polite the mod is if they are using have little restraint. If a mod is running around handing out infractions and closing down threads they don't like with an insincere "thank you" their manners really don't matter.

JavaBlack on of the first mods was an unapologetic admitted ass with a George Carlin avatar for good reason. He was also a great mod liked by by all except the social justice warriors.

Not really. From my reading of the stats the traffic picks up closer to the GE. At least that is how it appears given the Alexa link you provided.

And FTR I checked the forum that I was at prior to coming here and it is in serious decline and that is largely due to the mods over there not only allowing posters to be dicks but the mods being dicks too.

The moderation here is working very nicely IMO. No, the membership here does not have to constantly rise. It isn't as though this forum is a for profit corporation where posters and/or mods need to constantly recruit new membership.

Finding a balance between having the freedom to discuss any topic while keeping the dickishness to a minimum makes for a good forum.
