Why wouldn't they be buying that from Europe?

The EU ranks as Russia's number one trading partner, accounting for almost 41% of all trade.

And they share a 2600 mile border with China.. Don't they trade with China?

    Russia-China trade.

The indiscriminate bombing of Assad/Putin right now in Aleppo targeting hospitals, children, and babies will sow a lot of hatred that will linger quite a long time. The deaths of innocent and angelic life under the beasts that is now sitting in Damascus will never be forgotten and will serve as a warrant for Assad's end.

I think the waste-of-space jobsworths of the EU have imposed sanctions on Russia, and they might still be in effect?

And why do you think Assad and Putin would decide to intentionally 'bomb hospitals, children and babies'? Jeez!! :wall:

    No,
    I said "indiscriminate".
non combatant children and babies are there,
hospitals are there and they are annihilating everyone in Aleppo no respect at all with the countless innocent lives.
    What a beast.

It amounts to the same thing because they have no choice other than to use bombs which are themselves 'indiscriminate'?

I can assure you that nobody has more sympathy and empathy for the poor victims than me, but the only, repeat only alternative is to allow the jihadists to take over the country, and then move on to another one - and another one? Do you believe that Assad and Putin should allow to happen? This is war - a holy war, but nonetheless a war, and there are always victims in wars. If global jihad should prevail, there will be many, many more victims than a few thousand in Aleppo, and those victims might well include you and me, and our families. Have you not thought about that? Or are you closing your mind to it?

I hesitate to use a trite phrase in this dreadful situation, but the aphorism 'You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.' is extremely apposite.

The fighting would have been over years ago if the US would have stopped sending the terrorists guns and ammo.

Then why use bombs in the first place when it is indiscriminate?
So Putin/Assad admitted that they kill babies and children for the sake of prospering their cause!,
I could say as per your statement that they are not victims but intentionally murdered/slaughtered innocents,
it's premeditated for they exactly know what will happen next.

Even considering your views that this is a war you can read in the article below that the protection of civilians is a must.
    https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/ihl/INTRO/380
Why was bombing run made while children, babies, and the sick on the hospitals are still there?

This is a barbaric act and never a heroic one,
There is always an option Assad is supposedly only to quash domestic dissents and could be settled through dialogues as what a good leader should do but same as what happened now he resorted towards killing his own people. What he need to do is unite the nation again and flush out the jihadist.

And please don't get me involved in such an atrocity against mankind,
It churns out my stomach, I feel like vomiting or something.

If an eggshell do have a precious life then settle with a lettuce.

Yeah, a civil war that morphs into a clash between US and Russia,
he Assad should prevent that first hand.

Because the jihadists are in the hospitals too . . . they are using the injured as human shields. You have told us what Assad and Putin shouldn't do but you haven't told us what they should do. There's no point in criticising someone's actions if you can't come up with a cogent argument as to what they should do instead?

Sorry to say this but maybe the curry you've taken is too spicy, enjoying it though and you've entirely missed the word "dialogue" right there. For me that is total annihilation and an utter stupendous monstrosity, Assad should even protect these children and babies from these Jihadist and should not be doing this genocide/infanticide reasoning that he should eliminate the Jihadist, is he having the most lowest form of thinking as a leader or else he is just a straightforward bloodlust cruel leader who don't even know what leadership should be. Then your idol Putin did exploit these shortcomings taking part of the onslaught of baby killers, what a stinky turd meddling with other country's affair in a horrible way just to prosper his own.

Noted. You obviously have a closed mind on the subject and there's is nothing to be gained by continuing this conversation.

Margot there was just a show on PBS that had PBS reporters talking to Russian Dairy Farmers who said they liked that trump was voted in but that they were worried that Trump would gain access to the Russian Market and flood it with MUCH more inexpensive dairy products.

Same thing with the Medical supplies.

    Outstanding post.

I'm a little surprised at the lack of focus on who the opposition to Assad actually is.

As noted, they are having a civil war. The nature of the Assad government, their allies, etc. is well known.

But, we don't get much info on the opposition. Some of that is ISIS, but we know full well that there was a civil war before ISIS joined in and that the motivation wasn't Islamic radicalism. The link above points out the Shiite composition of the military, of Iranian help to Assad, and of the militias that work in favor of Assad.

So, when they say "victory" I'd like to hear what they actually mean.

What is their intent for the 75% of the population that is Sunni, and which has now been bombed by the government of Syria for about a decade now?

The fact is that the last "election" Assad held didn't allow these civilians to vote.

So, I know a woman who lost everything to Assad bombing - except for her son, who is in detention in Jordon. What's Assad's plan for people like her?

Again - when Russia and Syria talk about "victory" in this civil war, what do they even mean?
