The issue is Canadians come here to buy things because it's cheaper than in Canada which has such high tarrifs on the same goods.

But I said in post 31 - "So you must be against increasing tariffs on imports as Trump has pointed out how bad high tariffs are for Canada?"!

To which you replied that i failed to grasp what Trump said. And here you are now agreeing that Trump was pointing out that "Canada's tariffs are so high" You defend Trump no matter what.

Still waiting for you to point out what he meant by saying "No, we’re treated horribly.”

You said Trump said tarrifs were bad for Canada not me. I pointed out that he was pointing out the fact that they had such high tarrifs.

As for your question I answered it earlier you just didn't like the answer.

Exactly. When people talk off the cuff in long diatribes things don't always come out the way you want and trying to color an entire speech with three or four words is dishonest. You have to look at the entire speech.

And this was the false statement.
Canada's tarriffs are so high Canadians come here to buy things and smuggle them home.
Canadas tariffs on imported shoes are virtually the same as those the US imposes.
They do it because they are a little ornery and if they live close to the boarder treat us like a big duty free shop.

    Here you go.

Trump, speaking at an event hosted by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), said:

There was a story two days ago in a major newspaper talking about people living in Canada, coming into the United States and smuggling things back into Canada because the tariffs are so massive. The tariffs to get common items back into Canada are so high that they have to smuggle them in. They buy shoes and they wear them. They scuff them up to make them sound old, or look old. No, we’re treated horribly.

The president did not identify the “major newspaper” that supposedly printed the story, but his statement was based on an op-ed published in the Post three days earlier by reporter Isabel Vincent.

Be interesting to see the paragraph before this one. The no were treated horribly line may pertain to it.

I'd say a 200% tarrif on US dairy is indeed subsidized dairy in Canada

more like a GST/HST/PST free shop...depending on which province you live up to 15%...where I live it's only 5%...so for someone living close to the border in Ontario or NB a short drive is an easy way to avoid the sales tax...for me it's not worth the time or expense to drive to Montana to save 5%...

as are your even larger dairy subsidies, and that tariff is extremely inconsequential in the bigger picture...trump is nitpicking and only telling you part of the story, just like his scuffed shoe lies..

High tax is yet another issue. When I go to Canada I fill my gas tank and bring groceries for the duration of my stay if at all possible.

You are aware that America has about a hundred times more people than Canada does right?

"At issue is the Canadian supply-management system, which covers dairy, eggs, and poultry products. The system sets domestic production quotas and keeps prices stable, thereby guaranteeing farmers a steady income. And, in order to keep the supply stable, Canada blocks imports from other countries, including the U.S., by imposing tariffs—up to 270 percent on dairy products. About 80 percent of Canada’s dairy farmers are concentrated in two provinces, Quebec and Ontario, both of which are crucial to Trudeau’s political fortunes. (The system is by no means universally popular in Canada.) "

You would think LOL. I have so many conversations going with so many people on so many different subjects that they are merging. Time for me to get out of here and start my real life.

You can't go wrong with milk in America.

It doesn’t help that the U.S. subsidizes its own dairy industry heavily—up to $22 billion in 2015, according to one study. “The Canadians say, ‘Hey, wait a minute. You subsidize milk, too,’” Kelly, who is now a research scholar at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, said. “You’ve got all sorts of support programs for milk.”

In other words, Canada props up its dairy industry through quotas that cap the amount produced, and imposes heavy tariffs on imports. The U.S. subsidizes its dairy industry, resulting in lower costs for U.S. consumers, but a supply glut.

“U.S. politicians have been quick to demonize Canada for its different system. Fair trade is in the eye of the beholder. For example, some 41 countries, including the U.S., has WTO approved tariff-rate quotas. The U.S. challenged Canada’s rights to use their quotas within NAFTA over 20 years ago. The U.S. lost (that challenge)
