It's an example of how media bias towards certain kinds of news stories (if it bleeds, it leads!) messes with people's perception of reality, especially in parts of the world they do not otherwise experience. Trust me, you would be at no appreciable risk of being shot by anyone, police or otherwise, if you visited or even came to live here. Most of the gun violence is gang-related and limited to very specific areas, anyway. But, that said, I still would love to see less gun free-dumb and police forces less nervous and trigger-happy as a consequence, all the same. Every violent death is a crying shame that should be avoided if possible, no matter what the statistics may tell us. For sure, death by gun is a greater risk here than in many other countries. It is by and large insignificant as a risk factor, like death by lightning strike or car crash, but a risk that could and should be further reduced nonetheless.
As my time being a delivery driver pre-college, I never had to shoot a dog. I had to walk pizzas up hills my car couldn’t make it up with dogs and no chains all around. Switched rotweilers, Pits, German Sheps., etc all back to their owners after they were aggressive towards me bringing their food. I’ve only ever killed 3 dogs due to aggression, one was a pit that killed my lab in front of me and then started coming towards me, the second was my mother’s German Shepherd, it had anxiety problems and would lash out severely towards people walking down the street, Fuc*** up the neighbor boy which left me with no choice, the last one was my own dog (Treeing Tennessee x Walker) and it killed every single cat and chicken I had within 1 day of me bringing him home and then went after my girlfriends Chinese Cresteds, killing one of them. Again, no choice. This officer is trigger happy **** that has shown he can’t be trusted with a firearm. Send him to prison for the next 40 years, that way we know he can’t get another gun.
Cops have a pretty thankless job. Harrassing folks for seatbelts and plants leaves many treating them with derision and comtempt. Coupled with the relatively low pay, this creates a profession thats difficult to attract high quality personnel. People who are intelligent, wise and competent dont stay cops for very long- they get higher paying jobs doing something that folks won't hate them for. Im speaking in general, of course. Theres a lot of great cops that put up with this out of a sense of duty to their community, and they deserve recognition. But that doesnt change the dynamic that innevitably leaves most departments hiring less than optimal candidates. Folks who will follow orders and won't likely move on to better carreers make the most efficient cops. Its a problem with no ideal solution. That being said, you're about as likely to get wrongfully shot by police in the US as you are to be struck by lightning or killed by a tornado. So its not the most rational fear to guide your life by.
Here's what happened to law enforcement in America and who's to blame ? The same people who yell "Pigs in a blanket...fry em like bacon" and those who are always yelling police brutality. Not to forget PC liberals and progressives. Political correctness aka cultural-marxism is to blame. In the name of PC diversity law enforcement had to lower the standards for everyone they hired. Best example was the L.A.P.D. Rampart scandal.
That was an accident. Normally you are safe when you do what the officer wants you to do: step out of your car, hands in the air, lay on the ground and so on. Never resist. There's no reason to fight back if you're not a criminal who fears going to jail.
All the British police shows I watch have the Detectives and Bobbies unarmed. So who are these armed police?
Was at an accident? Yes. Was it still his fault? Yes. I'm sorry he is in this situation, but he still needs to be held responsible for his actions. Innocent person gets shot: Well, **** happens! Someone gets called out for accidental manslaughter, for which they are responsible: That's a worst nightmare come true! Those are some seriously messed up priorities.
As I said, most police officers in the UK don't routinely carry firearms and that has always been the case but there has usually been some form of provision for use of firearms by a subset of officers and/or in extreme circumstances. Most British police shows are about normal detectives or beat officers so generally won't involve firearms.
I must admit it tickles me every time I see British police officers run away when a bad guy starts shooting at them.
I told you. I watched British police shows on Netflix. What would you expect Bobbies without firearms to do if they were being shot at?
Just another one of the millions who are legal gun owners in our country who are really unsafe with a butter knife.
Was an accident.....no reason not to visit, just obey the laws....and stop staring, lol. Better than out of control "Asiatic hordes", aka russki thugs galavanting , terrorizing, normal people about their business, while cops are spineless to do anything. I mean they have clubs and guns, use the ****ing things, lol. We do.
Bulgarica, you really should go. The chances of something bad happening to you are about the same wherever you go. I've been lucky enough to make several fairly lengthy visits (never resident) and never had a worry (one thing, never give the finger to a driver who has rifles in the back window rack of his truck - but that's just common sense). However, make sure you have solid gold health insurance before you go - the necessity for medical attention and having to pay for it is more frightening than someone waving a gun around!
Do you have evidence which supports your claim it was a Pit? After the woman was shot, what happened to the dog. Why did it suddenly vanish? Was it shot as well?
It's called involuntary manslaughter. Manslaughter, well in this case... Womanslaughter. That is an unintentional killing that results from recklessness or criminal negligence. If the shooter was a civilian, he was going to be in jail. You know that! So how's that fair? And I can't help but wonder... How people think they won't be next. This could happen to literally anyone! Being at the wrong place, at the wrong time. No, I simply do not accept that, sir. If some of your relatives get in a similar incident next time, and I hope they don't, don't get me wrong, I hope you call it "a collateral damage". And if another 9/11 does happen, God forbid, be sure to remember your post and call it "a collateral damage". But I think you won't remember your post. And you won't call that "a collateral damage". We all know that! Thanks. Here's some more "collateral damage": There's literally hundreds of videos like these on the Police Activity channel. And of course some people will always find some way to justify that, when it's just ... unjustifiable. It's unjustifiable. It's just not okay! It cannot be justified in any way, and it's highly disturbing.
You're talking on behalf of 350 million people? Interesting. Because I believe I'm not the only one who shivers on a police stop. I don't really shiver on the full 100% scale because I'm not there, but it's still greatly disturbing to watch! I put myself into their shoes. I really do! And I believe you and your relatives, go through something very similar everytime you get pulled over. I am positive that you, at least once in your life, placed your hands on the wheel and begged God not to get shot. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. Greetings and god bless you, sir. You're from Germany, correct? That won't happen there. And by the way, sir, it's highly humiliating to get your hands up in the air and lay on the ground just because the PO "thought" you were a robber. And happens you have a CCW on you, well, God help you.
The militarization of Police and their willingness to shoot just about anyone is not okay. I am all for arming all citizens, removing all gun bans, so people can defend themselves against incidents like this one: Or this one: Or this one: If you can justify all that proof of police misconduct, then wow, I'll be so happy to admit that I'm in the wrong! Police is doing a great job at scaring us all, yes. I am scared. I am not scared of mentally ill mass shooters. I am scared from criminals with immunity and special protection! And I personally do know some super cool Police Officers, one of them is a close friend of mine, and he actually quit his job last year. That speaks enough. He's from Louisiana. Want to know his Department to confirm? Good people like him, they quit. And I'm happy he did. I'm really afraid, sir. I am not a criminal, I have no police record, never did anything wrong. I am a CCW permit holder for 9 years now. But just the thought of me getting stopped, and I reach to pull my wallet from my glovebox to hand my documents over, and get shot over this, I just don't know. Thanks by the way.
Thanks for all the replies, happy to even see the other side of things and hear different opinions. And let's clarify something. This is not about politics. I am not a far-left. I am not some looney. Me and the thousands even maybe millions of CCW holders, law abiding citizens, normal people that don't do anything wrong, we do care. Watch at (2:17) I am not support that, I'm sorry gentlemen. I just can't support that.
You are wrong. That has never once happened. And I do carry a CCW. Legally, of course. And the whole "hands up, on the ground" thing is for a felony stop, not a run of the mill traffic stop. They don't do that for no reason. Maybe you have a felony warrant. Maybe you ran from them. Maybe you and your car meet the description of someone who just committed an armed robbery 2 blocks away. Some good reason.
OK. Then, sir, would you be so kind to watch the latest videos posted by me, they're around 6 or 7, and let's together comment on that whether it's legal, or morally acceptable.
I don't know what breed they were because the plod refused to reveal it - which in itself speaks volumes. In other words, they are banned but the law isn't enforced; there are probably hundreds of them in the UK.
