They were but that was not good enough for the NRA and they have been lobbying ever since to gag the medical profession
Really? They lobbied and were successful in Florida, had legislation proposed in multiple other states andnow it has reared its ugly head again They were responsible for the Dickey amendment and have actively opposed medical research on this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dickey_Amendment The cost, just for initial hospital care of gunshot wounds is over 600 million per year and since most of those do not have private insurance that money is paid by you, the taxpayer
Which they should, I don't want my tax dollars being used for anti-gun research A drop in the bucket compared to the cost of treating uninsured drivers. Maybe the solution is to minimize treatments for the uninsured and irresponsible.[/quote]
Were physicians also asking patients about matters pertaining to their diet, how they prepare their food, what brand and type of contraceptives they are using, the last time they had their motor vehicle serviced and by which mechanic, the amount of time spent in a stationary state, or any number of other subjects and topics that may have no bearing or relevance on the reason behind the visit in the first place?
The records of the physicians would include the name and address of individuals who admit to owning firearms. If the physicians demand to know how many firearms and their serial numbers, and refuse to provide services to patients who do not submit such information, such would amount to a form of registration.
Oh sure, but what about if they don't "DEMAND" it and don't refuse to provide services to patients who do not submit such information?
Not happening by their plan. http://action.npalliance.org/p/dia/...MIxMiE9ara3gIVih-tBh1bzgwUEAAYASAAEgKMHPD_BwE
As has been detailed many times the NRA has not attempted to shut down research by the CDC on guns, rather as stated in the Dickey Amendment was a rider on the1996 funding rider on the Federal omnibus spending bill which mandated that "none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may be used to advocate or promote gun control." As for the CDC not being able to do studies on gun violence, it true, how did they do a study and release the results in 2013? https://www.guns.com/news/2013/06/27/cdc-releases-study-on-gun-violence-with-shocking-results If you are going to try to argue US law you should try to understand what is really happening rather than regurgitate what you read in liberal news from the US that is notorious for miscasting the truth. Incidentally, the courts have ruled Doctors can ask about guns, but under our law, patients aren't required to answer the questions and Doctors cannot refuse care based on a patient not answering. BTW, lying to your doctor here is also considered protected under the 1st A. By the last figures I saw, it is estimated 50% of patients lie to their Doctors.
