Trump wins on border security with emergency declaration and funding by Congress

A wall will not combat criminal activities. He wants you to think that, but that is a false narrative and you bought into it.

How can wall combat crime? It won't even stop the impoverished men, women, and children trying to get into the U.S. They will go around it, over it, or under it or a water passage.

Modern technology, more border patrol agents, more aircraft, more vehicles, and more immigration judges will combat the problem, not a wall, and that is what Democrats and Republicans want and that is what is contained in the bill Trump signed.

We have seven hundred miles that were justified as a way to stop illegal immigration and Trump has just declared a national emergency. I would say his declaration is absolute proof that walls don't work.

Oh wait. I know. Since walls clearly haven't worked in the past we need to build more walls to prove that they won't work in the future.

Or perhaps you will argue that they have worked and that is why we need more. But then if they are working why is there a National Emergency.

You seem to be confused. Read your sentence.

A wall around a residence or a prison is not at all the same as trying to wall off a 2,000 mile long border.

 

It seemed clear to me. If you don't have a wall in all the places where it would be effective, they will simply pick locations where it is less effective to cross.

A wall along a two thousand mile border is not the same, but the concept is similar. Leave gaps in the wall and they will simply go to the gaps to cross. When they are travelling thousands of miles to get to the border, they will pick the parts of the border which are most vulnerable.

Trump's fans simply won't deal with these two issues.

If the President can't get his way -- funding from Congress -- can the President simply declare a national emergency to get that funding? Congress appropriates funds. Congress denied Trump his funds. Can the President challenge the Separation of Powers principle of our Constitution? Do even Republicans want Trump to establish a horrible precedent? Picture President Ocassio-Cortez declaring a national emergency and issuing an E.O. stating that all guns are illegal and banning the NRA.

Trump's fans and Republican leaders in Congress can't get it in their heads that Trump's wall and his immigration issues are a losing proposition. That is all Trump talked about at rallies leading up to the 2018 elections. The GOP lost 40 seats and control of the House. Despite a 26 to 9 advantage, they barely hung onto the Senate. They lost several state houses and state legislatures.

They know in their hearts Trump is a loser.

 

Maybe you should present your ire to Congress that gave Presidents the power to do what Trump is doing with statutory authority. Maybe Trump haters can get it in their heads that the democrats have turned 180 on border security since 2016.

 

As midterm elections go, the republicans and Trump did well. Since 1946 the average number of seats lost in a midterm election was 46 seats.

 

Congress did not give Trump funding authority or authority to grant what Congress has denied.
