How? Yanno, this isn't the first time a president declared a national emergency.

It sounds like some folks are upset that Trump thought of it first......he didn't.

Only a little. Not a huge loss, but a loss none the less.

Congress does not have the votes to overturn it. The SCOTUS is not going to take away a power legally given to the president. The people support it. The wall will get built and you will have to like it.

This is not the first time a president has declared a national emergency.

I would say going from 0 to 1.375 billion is a cave. Not to mention all the money they gave Trump for other border security measures. They screwed the pooch on this one.

I can see that, but he wanted billions more. He didn’t get that. Just the 1.3. That’s why I say i wouldn’t call it a win for Trump, but it’s definitely a loss for the Dems.

Usually when you have a loser you’d have a winner, but I have a hard time seeing this as a win for Trump. It’s like a tie, but the Dems lost on the coin flip in OT.

In reviewing the comments, it seems that most are citing the precedent it would set rather than outwardly opposing the move. The country deserves more leaders committed to making a change for the people and less worrying about the next chess move.

Look at the position Trump ended up with: He wanted 5.7 billion. He got 1.375 billion to use while the court cases work their way thru where he will get 8 billion at the end.

The dems would have been better off giving the 5.7 billion. They are idiots. Trump has out played them.

By resisting the wall funding the dems have shown themselves to be open borders folks. That is a huge gift for Trump in 2020.

Not at all.....Pelosi said a dollar. Then not one dollar. Then Chucky Cheese said no money for a wall.

Then the Demos came up with 1.375 Billion.

Just because its not a Yuuuuuge win for Trump. Doesn't mean its not a win.

I know he has the ability to do that, but I’m not sure it’ll make it past the courts. It’s going to be interesting to see for sure.

And.....you act like the leftness doesn't have landowners in Texas. Or Leftist Activist groups in Texas.

Oh and I have read up on it.

    From yesterday.

Just hours after Trump's announcement, three Texas landowners and the Frontera Audubon Society in Texas, an environmental group, became the first folks to file a lawsuit against POTUS's emergency plans for the border. The government had previously informed the landowners that if the funds became available, they'd begin construction of the wall on their properties. The advocacy group Public Citizen filed the case in federal district court in Washington, D.C. on Friday, arguing the president exceeded his authority under the National Emergencies Act of 1976. The group called it a "fake national emergency."

    Public Citizen
    @Public_Citizen

BREAKING: We just sued Trump over his fake national emergency.

If Trump gets away with this, there's no telling what the next concocted "emergency" will be, who will be targeted and what emergency powers will be claimed.

We refuse to tolerate this slide to authoritarianism.

The 9th circus will be brought into play but I do not see the SCOTUS upholding their ruling.

The Keyword was BETWEEN ports of entry. Uhm, they went around barriers/walls/fencing, or there was no barriers and they just walked over the border.

Democrats were explicitly and overwhelming elected in 2018 significantly because of their opposition to trump on this issue. Despite trump and the GOP making immigration their number one talking point (and not healthcare or the GOP tax cut).

I look forward to you folks repeating the same mistake in 2020.

Dont put much stock into that hesitation. The Pentagon will approve his request in short order because they depend upon him for record levels of funding and their jobs.

They are slow rolling the announcement in order to make the process seem more deliberate.

The land between ports of entry and they simply walked, rode on a dirt bike or in a wheel barrow across the wide open spaces between ports of entry.

You missed the point, those are the ones they apprehended, many more made it through without getting caught.

How did they get to these unprotected areas without roads? Did they walk 200 miles on foot or did they have a convoy of trucks with sandtires? You ever been down to the Big Bend around Marfa and Presidio?
