'Guns were never an issue.' Huh. You blokes have been using guns to assassinate your Presidents virtually from day one. And what about mass shootings going back many decades?

Oh indeed we are. There is a great deal of consternation here about Islamophobia....a crutch used by gun nuts to grab weapons and go slaughter innocent people at prayer. Noone wants that crap. You? We take guns away. NZ is about to. You?

If your attacker had no gun, you would not need a gun, would you?

Oh dear. WTF has that got to do with domestic gun control? And don't dare lecture Australia on that score. In fact, so far, the reverse has been the case. You have asked us to give you a hand, and we always have, probably always will.

Simple. De-weaponise everyone. Do not buy the crap that you need a gun because he has a gun. Here, neither of you have a gun.

You have interupted my Don Quixotic quest, you Insolence! Oh well, windmills can wait. Why do you need a gun if noone else has one? I know where this is going. Straight into the NRA crap snake oil sales pitch which is, "Why do you want to deny a woman the right to defend herself?" Gee I wonder how many women have been murdered, raped, assaulted ete etc in the heavily armed domestic population of the USA? Gee, if guns worked, there would be none....right?

Because that's impossible to achieve in the U.S., furthermore eliminating guns will not stop the violence.

The U.K. is pretty much a gun free zone, however if the trend continues stabbings in 2019 will hit 40,000.

    https://www.unilad.co.uk/featured/the-dark-reason-40000-people-will-be-stabbed-in-the-uk-this-year/

Too many and it could have been less if not for anti-gun laws and restriction on the purchase of guns.

"No one helped her': NJ woman murdered by ex while awaiting gun permit"

Carol Bowne knew her best shot at defending herself from a violent ex was a gun, and not a piece of paper. And it was paperwork that left her unprotected when Michael Eitel showed up at her New Jersey home last week and stabbed her to death, say Second Amendment advocates, who charge local police routinely sit on firearms applications they are supposed to rule on within 30 days.

Bowne, 39, had a restraining order against Eitel when he killed her in her driveway last Wednesday, but she was still waiting for Berlin Township Police Chief Leonard Check to approve the gun permit she had applied for on April 21. Tragically, she had gone to the township police department just two days before her death to check on the status of her languishing application. In another indication of her fear of Eitel, Bowne had recently installed surveillance cameras around her home, and the equipment recorded the 45-year-old ex-con attacking her as she arrived home and got out of her car.
“She should have been granted that permit in a timely matter, especially given her status as a domestic violence victim,” said Evan Nappen, a New Jersey-based attorney who specializes in Second Amendment cases.

New Jersey's gun laws are among the nation's strictest, but law-abiding citizens are eligible to purchase and possess handguns after filling out forms available at their local police stations, submitting to a background check on any possible criminal history or mental health issues, giving fingerprints and paying a fee. Once those steps are taken, local police conduct a 14-point investigation and the chief is supposed to approve or deny for cause within 30 days.

Check did not return requests for comment, but gun rights advocates say it is not unusual for Garden State police chiefs to take several months to approve handgun permits for qualified applicants.

“The gun law’s intention is to be as difficult and cumbersome as possible,” Alexander Roubian, president of the New Jersey Second Amendment Society, told FoxNews.com. “They need to be repealed.

Gun-wielding mother of 2 thwarts attempted carjacking in Dallas

A mother in Dallas, Texas, nearly killed a carjacking suspect in order to protect the safety of her children, ages 2 and 4. The incident occurred at a Shell gas station near Interstate 35 on the evening of July 4, according to WFAA-TV.

The mother was inside of the gas station when a man, identified as Ricky Williams, 36, opened the driver’s side door of her vehicle and jumped inside. She noticed that Williams was attempting to steal her car and ran to the vehicle. She was able to open the passenger’s side door and pleaded with Williams to not take the car with her kids inside.

As Williams began to drive away, the mother grabbed her gun from the glove compartment and shot Williams in the head once, causing him to crash into a pole.

In Lake Odessa, Mich., a man suspected of substance abuse stole a truck and trailer to take it for a joyride. Stopping the vehicle in a local neighborhood, the suspect forced his way into a nearby house. The homeowner awoke to discover the desperate man stating he was being chased by someone attempting to kill him. Grabbing his gun, the resident followed the intruder outside to face the attacker, but found no one. Both men headed back into the house where the bad guy began to act in an erratic and angry manner, eventually attacking the homeowner. The resident fired his gun and killed his attacker. A man who sustained a full blast of pepper spray from a burglar fought back with his firearm one Monday night. After two men and two women asked the apartment resident for gas money, purportedly for someone he knew, they forced the door and pepper sprayed him. Acting quickly, the victim fired two rounds into the lead burglar, sending her to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. (caller.com, Corpus Christi, Texas, 3/5/19)

    April 1971

Rabbi Jacob Bergman of South Bend, Ind., was awakened by his wife, who heard noises and saw furniture being removed from a house across the street. He went over with a shotgun, captured a husband and wife burglary team, then held them for police. (South Bend, Ind., The South Bend Tribune)

A Texas couple out doing errands had to fight their way out of danger after being targeted by criminals looking for someone to rob. The husband-and-wife duo were followed on their way from a bank to the grocery store, and then upon loading groceries into their car, a black SUV pulled into an adjacent parking space. Abruptly, one of the SUV’s occupants jumped out, pulled a gun and demanded the woman’s purse. Fearing for his wife’s safety, her husband drew his own firearm and used it to fend off the suspects. The two robbers—both injured—drove off, but proceeded to crash their vehicle before attempting to flee on foot. Police arrested one suspect after he turned up at a nearby fire station seeking help for a shoulder wound. (abc13.com, Katy, Texas, 12/29/18)

    The Armed Citizen Extra
A burglar learned a hard lesson early one Thursday morning about taking no for an answer. After a Chesapeake homeowner confronter an intruder trying to enter his home via the attached garage, he quickly gave him firm commands to leave. Unfortunately for both of them, the man did not listen, which left the homeowner with little choice. He discharged his firearm at the would-be home invader, who was later taken to a hospital with life threatening injuries. (WTKR, Chesapeake, Va., 02/28/19)

A thief got more than he bargained for after stealing a sport utility vehicle in Missoula, Mont. Just after 8 a.m., local deputies were called to investigate the theft, and in their search for the offender, the officers spotted the SUV and attempted to pull it over and apprehend the illicit driver. However, he fled through several neighborhoods and a construction site before crashing into a mailbox. Witnessing the pursuit and crash outside his window, a nearby resident armed himself in case he was drawn into the confrontation. And sure enough, the carjacker chose to force his way into that very house, where he was met by the vigilant homeowner and held there until the police arrived to arrest him on multiple charges. (The Missoulian, Missoula, Mont., 12/18/18)

    The Armed Citizen Extra
An attempted burglary on Carefree Lane turned out to be anything but. After the robber began his attempt to rob the residence, he was confronted by the homeowner, who discharged his own firearm wounding the man fatally. No charges have yet been filed, though the police investigation of the incident is still ongoing. (WDBJ7, Roanoke Co., Va., 02/27/19)

And I can list 100's more reasons to be trained and armed.

Right in the next county over from I.

Good Samaritan shoots, kills suspect attacking deputy

A Good Samaritan with a concealed carry permit shot a man who was attacking a Lee County deputy on an I-75 off-ramp Monday morning.

"I saw the deputy and the suspect out of their cars with the doors both wide open and they were some type of altercation," Ambrosini said.

"He just kept beating him and beating him," said Shanta Holditch. She said the deputy was pulled out of his patrol car by the suspect, "throwing him to the ground and punching him in all different directions."

"I heard like three shots. He fell down on top of the police officer," said Mr. Smith, a witness. "After a moment, the police officer rolled him back over, got on his mic, then rolled over back on the ground besides the guy."

Holditch said the suspect "refused to get off the officer and the officer kept yelling, 'shoot him, shoot him, shoot him,' and then he shot him. I think approximately three shots were heard."

Totally impossible to do, heroin is illegal in the U.S. yet are streets are awash in it and deaths from it are reaching staggering numbers.

Now how does that drug get here? Simple it is smuggled, now do you seriously believe if guns where banned criminals wouldn't get into the business of smuggling guns into the U.S. to sell to other criminals?

All your idea does is disarm the law abiding making them easy prey for the still armed criminals.

Real genius idea you have there, real freaking bright!

Maybe consider this, if you where a doctor would you treat cancer with pain killers, the person with cancer would no longer be in pain, but is still going to be killed by the cancer.

Gun violence works the same way, banning guns is treating the symptom, not the disease.

We used to have a gun range at High School and I was on the rifle team. People used to drive to school with a gun in a gun rack.

People with issues used to settle it with fisticuffs.

Let me know what changed because it was not guns or gun laws.

Is it the legal obligation of private citizens to put themselves in the line of danger to try and stop such incidents from occurring?

While it's not a legal obligation to intervene it is certainly a moral obligation to try to do so.

There are a great many reasons for why such is the case in the united states. Greater population size, greater population density, inferior mental health care available to the public coupled with a general distrust by society at large, a much more diverse population coupled with animosity resulting from requirements of mandatory association with one another. A much larger middle class with no hope of advancement in life. A significant subset of the population that views violence and murder as acceptable courses of action in response to even minor offenses, and glorifies such in their entertainment.

But perhaps the greatest reason for such is the simple fact the united states as a whole is obsessed with mass shootings, and the individuals who carry out such incidents. Within hours of the story breaking various news outlets are providing round the clock coverage, constantly repeating the name of the mass shooters, showing their picture, covering details of their personal lives, and providing them with a level of fame and infamy that they could have never achieved on their own. An individual who is otherwise invisible to society and ignored suddenly becomes more famous than any celebrity, and society at large obsesses over them. Such is painfully evident each time the media reports on how the latest mass shooter was obsessed with previous mass shooters and studied them out in a fanatic fashion.

If the united states were truly serious about putting an end to mass shooting, the reporting standards would be changed. The name of the perpetrator, their photo, and their personal details would never be released to the general public, thus denying them the legacy of fame they are craving. Once the fame goes, the desire for others to engage in copycat attacks would cease since no one would acknowledge their existence in the aftermath.

Is it being stated on the part of yourself that law enforcement officers do not qualify as "good guys with guns" when it comes to stopping mass shootings?

Thus medical error is ubiquitous and the costs are substantial. In Australia medical error results in as many as 18 000 unnecessary deaths, and more than 50 000 patients become disabled each year. In the United States medical error results in at least 44 000 (and perhaps as many as 98 000) unnecessary deaths each year and 1 000 000 excess injuries.13

How would such serve to address the matter of individuals who are bludgeoned to death with blunt instruments? How would such address stabbings and strangulation?

    Agreed

They are mixing up adverse incidents with deaths. An adverse incident in a hospital could be getting your meal 1/2 an hour late

They also do not realise that an adverse death in hospital is reffed to the coroner and there is simply no way we have that many coroners cases each year
