I see the point went sailing over your head. The point being that not everyone benefits from white privilege JUST as not everyone benefits from AA. If someone can't tie their own shoes they won't be given any opportunity through AA. There has to be some level of competency. But keep in mind....I've already stated, in this thread, that I believe AA should be done away with...OOPS...heh heh heh. Do try to keep up...k?

Oh wait. Nobody ever said that except you. So is the ONLY reason for higher than average Black unemployment compared to other Democrahics, Racism? For example. Less black engineers because a bunch of white guys around a table plot our their evil plans like Mr. Burns? Vast white racist conspiracy? Or do very few black people go into engineering, so there are simply very few qualified? Conspiracy or logic or is it all racism again?

Easy to find evidence of historical inequities in engineering. A random example...

"Focusing on engineering programs in three settings--in Maryland, Illinois, and Texas, from the 1940s through the 1990s--Amy E. Slaton examines efforts to expand black opportunities in engineering as well as obstacles to those reforms. Her study reveals aspects of admissions criteria and curricular emphases that work against proportionate black involvement in many engineering programs. Slaton exposes the negative impact of conservative ideologies in engineering, and of specific institutional processes--ideas and practices that are as limiting for the field of engineering as they are for the goal of greater racial parity in the profession."

That's nice...its 20 yrs old. Yes, we know there was racism back then. But every student entering engineering schools now have zero "racist" roadblocks. Now, a black student applying for an engineering school will be an easy lock, unless they're pitifully under qualified. I sure hope her study isn't one of those where black students can't relate to the material, so its white biased. Am intelligent black student sure as crap better be able to relate to math and science. Because if she's one of those kooks, her study is as much of a joke as her conclusions.

An innocent perspective, at best. Eliminating historical racism isn't a straightforward exercise. The problem is institutionalised and it isn't easily eliminated.

There is no institutionalize racism in college preventing black students from applying and graduating. By your logic there must be institutionalized racism preventing white players from becoming starters in the NBA and NFL. Considering demographics, there should be a lot more white guys starting, correct? Since we've got to be equal, correct? Take a guess as to why not. Its quite easy. Either the NBA and NFL are racist(big stretch)...OR...black athletes outperform others on average, which we can all see with our face.

So lets expand. Either the entire engineering industry is made up of racists or there's a lot more qualified white & Asian students graduating and getting jobs. There are less black people in engineering because there are less black people INTERESTED and/or qualified to go into engineering. Its fracking math. 1s and 0s. Black people only make up X % of people in the country. X number don't do well enough in H.S. to even get into college. So of the remaining % that get in to college, only X are even interested in engineering at all, which leaves VERY FEW qualified black people in the industry. And no one is stopping black kids from being interested in engineering. Its not a problem. Its just fracking math.

You can apply this formula to many careers. Video game design. Coding. And it works in reverse too with education. Males are severely underrepresented in elementary education because very few study to get into that field and if you want to talk about bias...males and young kids don't mix of course, since there has to be something wrong for a man to want to work with young kids all day? Get it?

But I guess the system is racist?? /bangs head against wall

It always comes back to Trump, doesn't it? That man is living rent-free in your mind and those of your ilk.

I never said Trump was the most qualified, nor do I think Hillary Clinton was the most qualified person the Democrats could have put up. The superstructure upon which the electoral system is based does not make way for a broader field in which to select the most qualified person; it's fit for people who have money or those who can get the support of moneyed special interest. Anyway, this has nothing to do with the topic to which my post was in reference.

The video that I embedded in my post illustrates the low-rent faction of the student body at Yale that are a product of affirmative action.

That video illustrates one of the problems with affirmative action: it elevates low-qualified people into position for which they are not qualified, leaving those who were best qualified behind, which is a travesty to them, to the institution, and to this country.

You miss the point. Given the severity of historical racism, it is extremely difficult to eliminate the problem (despite implementation of more enlightened strategies). This is well understood in higher education, with a focus on decolonising the curricula.

Fair in this case means that outcomes are equal for everyone. Why should outcomes be equal (and wouldn't it be better if a minority earned a better outcome than others if it's deserved? Why settle for equal only?)

YOU we're talking about less qualified people being chosen over more qualified people, I was just giving you an example. How many qualified whites do you think were knocked out by less qualified whites?

There are probably more more-qualified whites that are knocked out by less-qualified whites, and it is probably at a greater number than less-qualified minorities that unqualifiedly displaced more-qualified whites. Here's the problem: the less-qualified whites are there because they are legacy students, their parents engaged in nontechnical or technical bribery, or a combination of the triumvirate. More than likely, their parents are not working-class and middle-class whites; they are well-heeled, blue-blooded whites, which, like I've mentioned in an earlier post, are not affected by affirmative action, as they have the financial clout to skirt around it. Although affirmative action nominally, at face value, targets all whites, in actuality, it really targets middle-class and working class whites, as middle-class and working-class whites don't have the financial clout to, say, donate a million dollars to Yale as their child is applying, and, voila, their child gets accepted. A faction of these well-off whites, in fact, advocate for affirmative action, since it is not an obstacle that they or their spoiled-brat children need to worry about, plus, voicing their support for affirmative action, they can be seen as "woke," and they can thus be received well by both the present and posterity.

It's racist to think that all minorities walk the same downtrodden path, and that all white people have it better than every minority, including Asian Americans, who are the wealthiest racial group in the country.

Equality refers to the average, not to individuals within the distribution. Its an example where equality and efficiency goes hand in hand.

Liberal terror squad carrying baseball bats and batons on campus as a warning to any white male who may come to campus to get an education or do their job.

    The Evergreen State College.

I went to a third world country all alone during a civil war to surf offshore reef breaks over razor sharp coral days away from medical care and I'm even more intellectually courageous...

I'm the founder and pre-eminant intellectual of the civil rights movement, 'equalitarianism,' and I went to arguably the most racist and sexist institution of higher learning in America.

I went to the Evergreen State college for the exact same reason Martin Luther King Jr. chose to march in Selma Alabama because Selma Alabama was the most racist and The Evergreen State College is the most racist and sexist

Evergreen actually has a student lounge for, "STUDENTS OF COLOR ONLY."

Watch the racist sexist liberals scurry like cockroaches under the counter when the lights are turned now that they are confronted with the evidence.

    Watch.

Watch me shut down this 800 plus post thread.

    Watch.

For the sake of clarity, perhaps just call it privilege, not white privilege, since not every white person benefits from it.

Absolute brilliance displayed on this topic.

Whites control all corporate boards, police forces, political parties, and the economy. They cause every war, every economic depression, and all industrial pollution.

Yeah, they have no control over society.

    Yeah, for sure ...

It is still white privilege. White people have privileges they aren’t even aware of like not being viewed with suspicion, like being able to hail a can in New York, like not being described as white , like not being told you’re a credit to your race if you achieve something
