Celebrated liberal U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg argued in an opinion released Tuesday that a pregnant woman is not a “mother.”

“[A] woman who exercises her constitutionally protected right to terminate a pregnancy is not a ‘mother’,” Ginsburg wrote in a footnote, which in turn responded to another footnote in the 20-page concurring opinion by Justice Clarence Thomas in the Box v. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky Inc. case.

...In a footnote, Thomas attacked Ginsberg’s dissenting opinion, which argued the Court should not have deferred to the legal standard used by the litigants in the lower courts, but should have subjected the Indiana law to a more difficult standard instead, since it impacted “the right of [a] woman” to an abortion.

Ginsburg cited no legal authority for her claim that a pregnant woman is not a “mother.” The claim that a fetus is not a child is central to pro-choice arguments.

Odd that RGC does not cite a legal precedence for her comment.

It was important enough for her to add to her notes though.

I have not been able to find anything to back up her statement.

And birth control is nazi science according to Justice Thomas.

A pregnant woman is a pregnant woman. How she is a mother to something that doesn’t have a functioning brain or heart (aka a Republican: I kid, I kid) is the question I would ask.

Have you ever heard anyone say you’re going to be a father? Because I’ve never heard anyone say you’re a father when they find out they’re pregnant.

Women who make the decision to abortion their fetus are doing it in some cases because they feel they aren't in the right place to be a parent. I'm fine with that but why aren't men given that same ability? It's 2019 ffs

Thats a great question. I wonder how a conservative scotus would rule on that matter.

One I think it's the fair thing to do and Two I think men having the same ability to financially and legally abort their child would cause people to take unprotected sex more seriously. People typically respond about the cost and my response is cost isn't an issue when given women to ability to abort( those fetuses could've been tax paying citizens) so why would it be an issue when giving men the same right?

They would likely rule that an 11 year old that is raped by her father has to carry the “baby” to term and that corporations are people.

What does any of those buzzwords have to do with how the court would rule on men being given the right to paper abortions

Makes sense in the parlance of "parasite/clump of cells".

Whatever they can do to dehumanize the human developmental process.

Why do many pregnant women celebrate mothers day while they are carrying?

I agree. And I'll cite a Black ghetto slang, concept, which I learned years ago from college friends, to validate how you and I are correct.

Society loves to attack Black ghetto men who do not take care of their biological kids, by saying, "
Just because she had a child by you, does not make you a daddy!"

And I apply that ghetto concept for this issue here, in the OP, to say, "Just because you can be pregnant, and have a baby, does not mean you can be a mother" ... So the ol' Ruthster is correct in her SCOTUS opinion. Yes because there are millions of women who are, trifling, and do not deserve to be called a mother. Just like those trifling Black men, when we so easily can see this reality apply to them.

Why do some women celebrate Father's day? Everything is all about them all the time and any excuse to get attention will work lol

Just saw a baby born at 23 weeks. The baby girl weighed 8 ounces.

She's still alive and kicking five months later and was released from the hospital.

I guess they should have just killed it to save them the trouble.

Considering the last interview I saw her do I'm wondering how long it took her to spill all that out anyways... a good 10 minutes?

A 23 week fetus is viable. Why do you think they should kill it?

So a "precious life" who is inside a poor woman shouldn't have care? Doesn't sound like you think it's so "precious"...

So you support a law that forbids abortion except in cases of 11 year olds raped by their fathers?
