    https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/tuc...a-war-with-iran-trump-is-rightfully-skeptical

The warmongers in D.C. want to destroy Iran. They have for some time.

Or at least invade and install a USA-friendly puppet regime.

Trump may not be fully onboard. But he is dependent on donations from wealthy Neo-Cons and Neo-Zionists. So we'll see.

Since 9/11, the U.S. has spent trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives trying to remake the Middle East in our image. It's sad to say it out loud, but we have to: It hasn't worked. Many of us thought it would, but it hasn't. By every measure, our foreign wars have ended in dismal failure for the United States -- however noble their intentions, and some did have noble intentions. Donald Trump was one of the rare Republican politicians honest enough to admit this. He said it out loud three years ago, and promised not to repeat the same mistakes if elected president. And partly because he said that, he was elected president. Now something fascinating is happening. The very people -- in some cases, literally the same people who lured us into the Iraq quagmire 16 years ago -- are demanding a new war, this one with Iran. The president, to his great credit, appears to be skeptical of this -- very skeptical.

Destroying Iran would be a good thing. It's just not practical.

Yes, Zarif believes he will not want war with Iran because he promised his base he would not and according to him has generally done what he promised his base. Possibly someone else I was listening to said it more clearly. If Trump had allowed this war there would not be a hope in hell that he would be re-elected in 2020. No one is expecting this to be easy or without massive American loss of life. He believed we would know Trump's position if/ after he is reelected...but as you said those who fund Trump want the war. Trump seems to be in a double bind. ;)

    Wow!
Did you people really had the illusion you can "remake the ME in your image"? So naive! :hippie:

The U.S. was built on Christian values, the ME is based mainly on Islamic values. Big difference.

The US will not invade Iran. Any war would be limited to air strikes. We could never match Iran's 400,000 troops. The most we deployed in Iraq was 140,000, and we had a very hard time
maintaining that. Our Army numbers 470,000. The majority of these are support, not combat, troops. We have obligations in Germany, Korea and Afghanistan. Our military is war weary
from Iraq and Afghanistan. There are also 180,000 marines, but even with them, we could never deploy enough troops to match the Iranians in numbers. The talk of our occupying Iran
    is a pipe dream.

Of course now democrats are trashing Trump for NOT starting a war, calling him names because he did NOT attack Iran. The hypocrisy is fun to watch.

Well Bolton was going to deploy 120,000 but it is widely believed you would need about 1 million and that you could probably get 350,000 from the Saud's UAE. The US would need to introduce conscription and be prepared for body bags like Vietnam - Iran would fight it like there too.

It is also widely thought that you will make no change with a little bombing raid except to get Iran to get Nukes asap which is in any case the way you are pushing Iran. I see this as a no win situation.

Hmmm, sounds like we're back to barbarism and the destruction of others as a means of survival.

No, it is suggesting going back to barbarism and destruction of others because some people want it.

Warmonger types on both the Left and the Right always want war for a variety of reasons . . . which is one reason that anti-ethical in nature Barack Obama obliged them by almost always agreeing to engage in warfare during his eight years of office. The irony being that he was really BAD at being an effective Commander-in-Chief. Trump on the other hand tends to actually win any fight he engages in. Go figure.

Iran said that if the US attacks they will retaliate on American interests in the Middle East. I can see it now, the price of oil jumping up to $200 a barrel.

It would be a full scale war because our response would cause a counter response by Iran and any escalation would include Russia and probably China since they have given Iran security guarantees.

The best Nentanyahu could hope for is for Iran to pull out of Syria and that ain't gonna happen unless American troops pull out first. It would be the smartest move we could make. We're not needed there and we are hated. In contrast Russia is not. One third of the people in Israel speak Russian and many are Russian citizens, so it's Moscow's job to protect them not our job.

He is helping the Mullahs in their sabre rattling. That's the main way they stay in power.

Looking at the big picture, Iran is a pimple on the ass of the world. The world would be better off without Iran.

But we all know there are millions of good, decent Iranians. Vaporizing Iran is not an option. We just have to contain the evil they do.

You mean by sending back pallets of cash and allowing them to continue producing nuclear fuel? Oh wait, that was Obama.

As my Iranian friend says of Iran of which he escaped and became a US citizen. The people are great but the leaders are crazy.

Yes. I work with an Iranian woman who escaped the revolution in 1979 when she was a teen. She is probably the smartest and toughest person I've ever met. And she thanks God every day she got out.

The US is now the world's largest oil producer and we no longer need be so concerned about oil prices going crazy over Mideast tensions.
Drill baby drill and bombs away.

Which will be just fine until all our water is contaminated from the fracking. Oil is nice but you can't drink it.

I sure am not! But the guy can be criticized for sending mixed and confusing messages on the topic, and for using rhetoric that implies we will do things, we don't have the balls to do. That turns us into the worst kind of schoolyard bully, a cowardly one.
