i think its fair to say that most Germans fear the US and its hegemonic policies. now expressed in a boorish and unapologetic manner since Trump became president, more than they have anything to worry about Iran. At the same time, Germany's relations with Iran, standing on its own, would be actually warm and mutually beneficial, but of course can -- and often do -- become strained when the Germans are dragged to tow the American line and/or when they feel they need to appease the Israelis. To be sure, there are two things that the Germans have done, which done by any other country without the reservoir of goodwill that exists in Iran towards Germany, would have caused irreparable damage to bilateral relations between them. First was Germany's role in aiding Saddam's chemical weapons program during the Iran-Iraq war and, secondly and even more significantly today, the supply of German Dolphine submarines to Israel. With direct American assistance in egregious breach of America's NPT commitments, those Dolphine subs have been fitted with nuclear weapons pointed at Iran.
German reunion was a big mistake. A two-state solution would have been better. Just think of the huge amount of money the worthless Easterners cost us.
Yeah right with Germany right smack in the middle of it all. Germany is rebuilding it's war machine under the guise it is for self defense using Trump as the threat against them. This is Merkel trying to please the "white" wing German nationalists in hopes of keeping her party in power. If the UN has the courage of it's conviction they'd slap Germany with sanctions for even talking about building up it's military with long range offensive weapons like an aircraft carrier.
Most Germans don't fear the US. All they have to do is remember the end of WW2, who had helped to rebuilt their country, and who plundered it.
The USA itself isn't seen as a threat. Trump's threat to withdraw US troops from Europe and thereby weaken NATO in Europe and strengthen Putin is the problem. That's why Germany wants to upgrade its military.
You said it changes the flow in the post I read but I did fail to read your further posts where you did say radio waves. A better way of saying that is an aircraft redirects the RF airwaves to the passive radar transmitted by other sources. And no, Germany did not invent the passive radar as you claimed. It's old technology. Passive radars cannot be used to guide missiles to the aircraft. At the speed an F-35 travels you need to be able to detect it far away in order to prepare a weapons defense system to shoot it down which means a guided active radar missile defense system will need to be used in which case an F-35 will be able to detect and take out multiple missile launchers including mobile launchers.
Surely it's time for a democratic Germany to assume its responsibilities for maintaining world order, or at least for defending Europe. If they want an aircraft carrier, let's sell them one of ours. Better yet, offer a three for the price of two deal. And if they're really feeling some sort of atavistic militarist impulse -- which I don't believe for a minute -- but if they are ... let's sell them all our bases in Afghanistan and the Middle East, and let them replace us! Hell, we should pay them to do so. The Old Germany had a way of making sure a village in a hostile, occupied-by-Germany country didn't supply any terrorists to kill German soldiers, or if they did, they regretted it extremely. They could try out those methods again in Afghanistan and Absurdistan, after we leave. Who knows, it might work.
Merkel appears to be catering to the white wing nationalists. Her party is declining because of their immigration policies. Nationalistic political parties like the AfG and the Youth AfG which is far more radical right wing are on the rise. Sobo claims to be a member of the Youth AfG.
Sobo will probably disagree with you on this. He wants the US out of Europe and closer ties to Russia. It is Germany's closer ties to Russia that is creating a problem for NATO and it's mission in Europe. With the EU eventually receiving most of it's energy from Russia this will create a conflict of interest for NATO making the EU an unreliable NATO member if Russia decides to attack an Eastern European country. Will the EU side with NATO or Russia or stay neutral?
That's a big problem all over Europe. Stupid people are afraid of too much change, capitalism, refugees, foreign infiltration, etc. They scent the downfall of their old culture and call for strong leaders. Also, Hitler has benefited from this fear.
All European right-wing extremists hate the US and love Russia. Probably because the Russian leader is a real, powerful dictator while the US has a wannabe dictator who is constantly struggling with congress, justice, press and so on Russia depends on the sale of gas and oil. There is not much more in this poor country.
Only one? Which one was that, Number 1 or Number 2? Enlighten us. And, you have no right to arm. You gave that up when you killed millions. If a rabid dog bit you twice would you say it has a right to bite again? It is that "we have a right to defend..." that got us from WWI to WWII.
Do you know why the new German navy ships will have glass bottoms? So they can see the old German navy!
WW I was not started by us. And like all, we have a right to be able to defend ourself. If we get attacked, you say we should be slaughtered like sheep?
Good to hear that. We don't want a war with Germany. Last I heard we are on friendly terms. Good luck with the construction of your carrier
That issue is one of many that is making NATO obsolete. How many actual NATO countries actually want a mutual defense pact against Russia? Not many at this point.
Sadly, Russian space activity is declining. I think they spend about 3 billion US per annum. China is more than double that and America is more three times China's expenditure. Elon Musk of SpaceX claimed that one Russian spat at him when Musk wanted to buy a Russian rocket too cheaply. Musk was told go home, "little boy." That little boy wiped out Russia's commercial space industry single handed.
