    Maybe? Lol. The whole point is that you CAN be sued for the words you use. Words are important. Society realizes this. Certain kinds of speech are illegal. Other kinds can/will get you sued.

    That wasn't really the point. I was responding to this:

    The whole "sticks and stones" thing is really stupid. We all have been on the giving/receiving end of words we didn't want to hear/use. Who hasn't been in a fight with their spouse? It's not pleasant. The wrong thing said at the wrong time can end a marriage or estrange you from your kids.


    It depends on a lot of things.

    The law of defamation varies from state to state, but there are some generally accepted rules. If you believe you are have been "defamed," to prove it you usually have to show there's been a statement that is all of the following:

    • published
    • false
    • injurious
    • unprivileged
    What, do you think you can just shoot your mouth off and not have to face any consequences?

    I'll repeat this one more time, slowly.... DEFAMATION is not the same as saying something "mean". You could try to sue me if I defamed you ---- but you'd be a laughing stock if you tried to sue me for hurting your feelings.

    And damn, if you'd walk away from your spouse or your kids because someone hurt your feelings in an argument, wow, just wow.

    I'd tell you what I really think but I'd probably get a handslap from the moderators. But you still wouldn't be able to sue me :p

    You're not really getting the point: the reason we even have laws regulating speech and have civil remedies for things like libel, slander, and defamation is because words are taken very seriously in this society.

    How long would you stay with a spouse who's verbally abusive to you? How long would it take to drive your kids away, if you're verbally abusive towards them? Not long.

    I see. You want to violate the forum rules and lash out at me. It's almost as if some words have made you angry.

    I’m sure Obama or Hillary would sit back and let people leak personal information about them while in the WH. Obama didn’t have to worry about that since anyone offending him was just ostracized and called a racist. Hillary took the easier way out and just killed people who offended her.:)

    Did Obama ever threaten to sue anyone? Did Obama ever actually sue anyone? Did Obama settle a fraud lawsuit for $25 million after bragging that he doesn't settle lawsuits?
