    I don't know about a .38 but I know for sure that a 40mm (1.5 inches) is plenty big enough from anywhere. I sure wouldn't want to fire it from a crawl space though.

    I shot quite a few rounds of 40mm High Explosive out of a M203 back in the Army.

    And I get that JS was trying to say .40cal and even in that his ignorance is astounding. Just because .38 and .40 are close in their location on the numerical sequence, they are nowhere near the same gun when shooting. The .40 has WAY more snap than the .38 does and the damage dealt is evidence of the difference in power.

    40mm, holy cow...

    This is NRA tactic 101. They were caught teaching this to one of our political parties. You get a sympathetic journalist slip them some dosh to make up a story about “brave homeowner protects family”

    Fortunately for the rest of us American citizens, the decision of which firearm is "enough" is not in the hands of a bunch of carping, piss-ass hyperliberals who don't have any respect or regard for the 2nd Amendment of OUR Constitution...

    If some gang of human trash threatens me on my own ground, I'll shoot the son-of-a-bitch(es) with any damned caliber weapon I feel is "enough" -- GOT IT?

    I knew a guy who was shot 3 times in the abdomen with a .32 and he was able to stumble to a plush chair in his house, retrieve his 9 and kill his attacker, his son on meth. He died a few years later, broken heart I think.

    My German 32. auto was a favorite of the Gestapo and the SS. I also have a .22cal Magnum, but I don't want stuff getting stuck in my drywall. Why head shots? Body armor.

    You won't have to worry about things getting stuck in your drywall with a .22 Mag. Clean smooth right through. Several layers.

    Why not, it provides cover and very few attackers would ever expect to be taking fire from above.

    Bullcrap, a .38 or .40 mm has nowhere the knockdown power of a .223 JHP.
