It was a disproportionate measure taken that escalates the situation with Iran. Good way to start a war. Wars are good ways to keep incumbent presidents in the White House.

Far too many factors at play for anyone outside of the inner circle to know why this didn’t happen sooner. As far as why it happened now, I see two possibilities. Either there was intelligence gathered indicating an imminent threat that could by thwarted with his death or, as I suspect, Trump is looking for a bump in his support. Rally ‘round the flag has played a pretty prominent roll in propping up some otherwise unpopular presidents.

Killing the responsible leaders was the most proportionate way to deal with the Iranian attack.
The air strikes were a bit disproportionate. Given that the entire USG Administrative State has wanted a war with Iran for decades Iran's leaders should count themselves lucky that Trump was in office to limit the damage to those most directly responsible for attacks on Americans.

What impeachment? Has Nancy actually announced a date that she would refer the matter to the Senate yet? If anything, dems are trying to stretch here because they couldn't come up with a case. As for what is happening in Iraq, I suppose it may not have occurred to you that our enemies might in fact be using said impeachment as their "go light" because they believe the US now to be weak. I suppose we should blame the democrats for inducing that notion in the world. And of course at the cost of actual American lives. Of course democrats have no shame or feel any remorse for their actions.

 

This all begs the question. Do we trust that this President would not compromise lives, or the national security interest of this country, to enhance his poll numbers before an election, more to the point do the voters? All a president has, when circumstances come up close to election time, say in October, is his reputation and integrity to ensure voters are not convinced by the opposition that he cooked up the crisis, to solve the crisis in time for the ballot boxes to be impacted.

I will let the readers of this post decide if Donald Trump has established that requisite credibility and reputation with the American people. I think the man who coerces foreign powers to investigate his political opponents, a year before an election, would be wise to tread very lightly in foreign policy and military matters when September and October hit.

You are right about Trump winning easily in 2020, but that was apparent before the Iranian regime decided to give Trump another boost.
