One person is a data point. Multiple people treated becomes research data.

It takes time to understand its effectiveness and to see if the side effects are worse than the disease itself. In other words, it's way too premature to tout this as "The" cure.

Was it Trump who researched this drug and suggested its use? Oh, right, the doctors did that. He's just taking credit for it.
Anyone who still supports Trump at this point does not win any prizes for overall perspicacity in my book.

NO! That would be, you know, like giving Trump credit for something. ;-)

It has been an over the counter drug in many countries forever. It should be available right now here.

Studies are fine, but this drug should be made available immediately.

Meanwhile, the FDA long ago approved high fructose corn syrup, which is basically a poison that leads to obesity and diabetes.

I hope they do find a way to combat this ...

That said, when someone says they had tachycardia after taking it and had been given "several other drugs" to counter the effects ... I think it's a loooooong way from being a miracle drug.

    The FDA kills.
Grand juries, prosecutors and trial juries would be far more effective than the FDA at regulating Big Pharma.

Exactly, it's cruel to those who were given hope only to have it dashed and it can depress everybody else who might get the idea there is no cure possible.

We already have a pretty good indication of where most Trumper's heads are at. Look at all the posts on here where they say "it's only a few million who will die, but the ECONOMY is the important thing." As if several million dead in a few WEEKS, not a year, will have no effect on people One other poster here said it would be like people unconcernedly stepping over corpses to go into Starbuck's. Would Trumpers really do that?

All diseases have cures, and I really, REALLY hope this is one, but it's just wrong to get people's hopes up before we know.

Exactly. What people don't realize: Lockdown or not, once it gets bad enough, i.e. relatives dying in hospitals because of lack of ventilators, or sick relatives not even being able to get admitted to hospitals, there will be blank fear of death on the streets, government lockdown or not. Once it sinks in to the public, it would be a lot worse than the controlled curfews that we have right now. We can prevent this actual panic from happening, but the president has to be on board So far, he isn't and the governors have to take the lead.

I'd say those who avoided death due to this drug would be the first to disagree.

You are missing the point. Without systematic study, nobody will know whether the drug is effective or not. The patient in the OP's story could have recovered without the drug just as well, it is entirely possible that the infection had run its course and the timing of drug administration was just pure coincidence.

That's why drug companies spend millions of dollars on clinical trials with controls.

No proof in the antidotal story that the drug was the active part of this - it could have just been the normal course of this disease in this particular person. Sugar pills have a 17% efficacy rate. Using one person's story is not good science nor medicine.

The drug is also known to cause heart problems. You could further compromise people already fighting for their life.

I apologize for being so aggressive it's just that I was upset by your post, not an excuse but that's the reason. Now that I've calmed down I can say more quietly that you are still not thinking at all. You are mixing everything in a hodge-podge of non-related issues.

FIRST you sad that "further testing" is some sort of "leftist" plot. That is absolutely silly.
SECOND, you said the drug in question "has been in use for over 80 years". Bloodletting and lobotomy have been used longer than that but it doesn't mean they are cures for Coronavirus.
NOW you say that all caution should throw to the wind and this drug "be given out in mass quantities to every hospital immediately". Do you actually know what it is you are saying? I don't think so.

This entire thread is more proof lefties are finding every reason not to use this life saving drug.

Did any of you even read the small studies done much less the OP's article?

I don't think the federal government has the power to order a nationwide lockdown, the individual states do.

If this well known, well used drug is showing promising results, use it, save lives. Sorry you don't agree.

    More Hillary non-logic.

    * I do not agree that "further testing" is some sort of "leftist" plot. In fact, it is ridiculous.
    * I do not agree that this drug has been "well-used to cure Coronavirus for over 80 years". In fact, it is not true.
    * I do not agree that it should "be given out in mass quantities to every hospital immediately". In fact, no professional would ever administer the drug en massé until it has proven itself to aid in combating Coronavirus without causing death or some other long-term ailment.

    Good night, Hillary. Sweet dreams.
