I went to Wal Mart and saw a Marlin .22 bolt action, tube magazine fed (No clips, sorry) rifle that I wanted since I was a kid. I filled out all the paperwork and paid for the rifle. I then had to wait a "cooling off" period of 15 days before I could actually take possession of the rifle. During that waiting period, I went to Turners Sporting Goods when they happened to have a butt-load of used Russian SKS rifles for and on sale. The SKS is the precursor to the AK-47 and is considered an "assault rifle". But California also considered them "Curios and Relic" firearms. I plunked down my cash for one that was in bitchin' shape, filled out a bill of sale, and walked out of the store with the firearm. I bought another one whilst still waiting out the waiting period for my "new" bolt action .22 rifle. That was California at its decerebrate finest!
So, if I register my AR and give up all but my 10 round mags you will never bother me again? Never require additional limits on guns, mags or ammo? Never require additional registration? Never come looking to take my guns away? This magazine limit and "assault" weapon registration would be the "end". Right... And then when some crazy with a 12 gauge pump, a lever action .44 and a .44 wheel gun decides to shoot up his local mall (school, church, Walmart, theater, night club...) and kills 30 or 40 people.... then you will be back to limit just those guns.... then you will limit my ammo... then ..... then I will have to register all my guns, plug their barrels and display them on my living room wall. Thanks, No!
The state of California already proved that such would not the case. Therefore there is no point on the part of yourself attempting to suggest otherwise.
register your AR, limit gun sales to 1 a month, limit magazine size to 10 rounds, yeah ill leave ya alone
What does the side which is currently supporting more firearm-related restrictions currently possess, that it is willing to give up in exchange? Such is the true nature of compromise, rather than one merely asking for less and giving up nothing whatsoever.
a criminal illegally purchasing a firearm is not a loophole. There are no loopholes regarding firearm purchases. If you go to an FFL dealer, you have to fill out a form 4473. If you buy from a private seller, you do not. Felons are prohibited from purchasing a firearm from an FFL and from an individual.
Interesting and typical of a gun control advocate; between post #27 and post #31 you have already added a condition. It wasn't enough for me to register my "assault" weapon and limit my magazines to 10 rounds. In post #31 you added "limit gun sales to 1 a month". It's only been two days and you are already adding more restrictions. Now you see why I say NO to any form of gun control. No matter how much gun control is achieved it is never enough to satisfy the anti-gun crowd. Nothing ever will be enough until all my guns, magazines and ammo have been confis... (oops!) "bought back".
Good? Lets think it through. Flaco-the-felon wants a gun. I can see how this limits purchases by law abiding citizens. What effect, if any, does it have on Flaco?
While this my first posting on this board, it is one where I have to vehemently disagree with you. Our forefathers fought and died for your Liberties. A background check in order to exercise a constitutional Right is a violation of the Fourth Amendment. Secondly, it only tags people after they've committed an offense wherein the government thinks they shouldn't own a firearm. In that case, why are those people roaming our streets? Don't they belong in jails, prisons, or mental health facilities? One gun per month??? What does that accomplish? Red Flag Gun Laws - This is code for saying that Due Process need not be observed. I couldn't help but notice that the topic here was gun control. Control is exactly what it is and control is definitely not crime prevention nor legislation to reduce the numbers of people that die due to firearms. BTW, every time someone advocates outlawing high capacity magazines, thousands of people start buying them like toilet paper during the Covid19 scare. I tried to order some from a company that sells them for super cheap prices. Last week they sent me an e mail saying they were back in stock. They supposedly received a shipment of 5,000. I tried to order two hours after that e mail came in and they were sold out... again!
Not surprised they took the cowardly route of doing this while everyone is in stay at home orders....and after they said they'd take this issue up again next year ta boot. Democrats sure are using this virus to the hilt aren't they? By hook or by crook they push thier agenda no matter the cost.
The facts on the ground: - It is impossible to avoid the background checks mandated by federal law - thus, there is no loophole in the law. - It is always illegal for a felon to buy and possess a firearm - thus, there is no loophole in the law.
The president of the united states does not have the legal authority to veto, or even order the veto, of any state-level legislation.
Depends on What you mean by criminal. If a felon, the felon can be prosecuted for committing a felony, even the attempt to purchase a firearm. If the seller, it depends on whether the seller know the sale was to a prohibited person, in which case the seller can also be charged with a felony. However, there are cases where felons have petitioned to have their rights restored and have had them restored.
If a felon has done their time, paid for the crime and been rehabilitated, how come we presuppose that their Rights are not automatically reinstated? Do we not have unalienable Rights as per the Constitution? The unalienable Rights were codified into law by the Bill of Rights. So, after a person has paid their debt to society, they should return as full members of society.
There were many out there before 80% blanks became available. There are available CNC plans for various gun designs that have been available on the net for years... CNC Milling machines can be had second hand from sources like Craig’s list or relatively inexpensive ones from places like Harbor Freight. Even without a CNC, for someone with access to a lathe, milling machine, and drill press can reproduce an AR 15 Lower using either plans or measures from an existing lower. Back in the late 60’s I worked in my uncle’s marching shop and built a small .22 ca. Matching gun based on concept of a simple open bolt design, before getting my hands on the plans for building a full scale Sten MK II 9mm. In the Philippines, there is a thriving black market for guns built using hand tools. You can find YouTube videos of people building guns, including Luger and even Colt Single action designs. The 80% blanks simply make the process easier for basement tinkerers, but really are not a new phenomena. Building your own from scratch is legal, as long as you don’t intend to sell it.
Yup. I guess what I meant was VA has created an incentive for many more folks to start doing this. A silver-lining IMO, as its always good to learn how to make things The limits on what you can build and have in your home are far less stringent than those on what you can buy/sell.
