They are in custody because they broke our immigration laws. People in jail awaiting trials are still charged with breaking the law, our law.

Not necessarily. It is legal to cross and turn themselves in for amnesty reasons.

Amnesty? But they are obeying our laws so why do they need amnesty?

School teaches what exactly......? That US is not carnage? I hope they teach that.

You have been instructed to believe US is carnage and evil.

The Trump policy was to apply for asylum from their own country and not come here till after the hearing. I don't know if Biden ended that policy when he was sweeping out the remnants of Trump but I thought he reverted all of them. To my knowledge none of those seeking asylum from home were in custody and those who come her are released pending hearings. It's probably even money whether or not they show up for said hearings.

    I can't say either.
This article doesn't say, but it doesn't sound like they undid it. But trying to improve it. It's a mess and these are desperate humans.

    ...
The number of cases in the immigration courts has exploded over the past decade from more than 262,000 in 2010 to 1.26 million in 2020. Meanwhile, just over 231,000 cases were completed in 2020.

Here is an article you might like to see, it addresses much of what we have been talking about.
‘Mommy, I Have Bad News’: For Young Migrants, Mexico Can Be the End of the Road (msn.com)

The numbers here seem to contradict much of what the administration is claiming. The situation at the border is in crisis.

    Yep, as I said, it's a mess.

    And approaching 2019 numbers.
    From your link:

In 2018, 1,318 children were admitted into shelters for unaccompanied minors in Ciudad Juárez, the local authorities said. By 2019, the number had grown to 1,510, though it dipped to 928 last year because of the pandemic.

But in the first two and a half months of this year, the number has soared to 572 — a rate that, if maintained, would far surpass the total reached in 2019, the highest year on record
    ...

And I've posted this link a few times in this thread.

The big question is, is how do we handle them? How do we process them?
And the bigger questions is, how do we make it so they don't feel the need to come here?

The US is going to figure out a way to eliminate global poverty?

The country can't even solve the economic problems of all its own people.

The Trump approach was to put pressure on the home governments, the big stick being foreign aid. That with a beefed up BP, the fence and ICE making arrests inland when some of the immigrants got arrested for some criminal act in the US.

Republicans make a big fuss because Biden hasn't visited the border area to see for himself. Biden can't go there in the mess it's in because the press goes with him and the country would see just how bad it has gotten and is still deteriorating. These kids that are coming alone aren't getting to the border unaided and they should be stopped and sent home, stop being so tolerant with a blackmail scheme.

You lock the door - obviously. They won't want to come if they can't get in. That's how all 'tight' nations do it.

Were you thinking there'd be hugs and puppies?

In custody they are just waiting to be dispersed throughout the Heartland where there detection is not easy. This is a slight of hand Biden is pulling. Their future was in question under Trump and that is why they stopped coming. The invasion is massive here in Arizona and you play the part of a "slippery fish".

Talk to someone in Gila Bend or other close to border towns. You have no idea because all you've got is Ole'Joe, Kamala, and the leftist media. They won't even go to the border. Talk to those who have for a change.

I am 'woke' because I don't share your pessimism and dislike for the US? US is not, and never was carnage. You were instructed to believe that lie, while I rejected it.

Obviously you don't even know what woke means, and as an deflection tractic you are trying to make the conversation about me rather than the topic.

And the "slippery fish" knows that while border agents are occupied with kids "packed in cages" the Cartel is flooding areas of the unfinished wall with Fentanyl, Meth and other leftist goodies. They make money both ways. The Cartel owes Biden an Emmy......along with the "slippery fish " that support him.

You only describe the leftist, Marxist version of what you feel the U.S. is to be.

Not a leftist. Sorry. Wrong again. You are the one who bought the "US is carnage" line, not me. You are probably further left than I have ever been. You're just throwing mud at me as a desperate attempt to deflect from your failed arguments.

You know, I take a stand. I've been called a Trumper and I don't deny the fact his policies (especially at the border) are right for America. Labels don't bother me but I don't mind taking a stand. So you say you are not a leftist. Are you in the "slippery fish category"? Are you establishment? Neo Conservative? How "woke" are you?
The" America carnage" line is a new one on me. Do you just like remaining pretty obscure? That might put you in the category of "slippery fish".

I'd be lying if I called myself a leftist. How about you? Are you a leftist/Marxist? Are you "woke", or just a Trump apologist?

I am conservative leaning independent, which means I am not obligated to argue the party line at every turn like so many others do.

You don't even argue a line. You just attack from what I've seen. You attack and stay safe. I am anti establishment as it now stands.. I always resist the swamp. I stand with the individual before the collective. Conservative leaning Independent is pretty damn safe I'd say. Sorta like Juan McCain, Mitt Romney and Jeff Flake. You can be left when it serves or right when it serves.....it's whatever makes you popular.......or a "slippery fish". When I fish is know some like to carry a towel to hold on to slippery fish while they unhook. If I am not catching and releasing (which I seldom do ) I just dig my nails in and hold tight.
