I have 2 posters telling me we now have an open border policy.

I don't know what that is, but they keep telling me we have it.

 

Fences work, walls don't

Fences are part of a barrier system. A wall over even 10 miles long is outrageously expensive and totally ineffectual. The only reason Trump wanted it is to give a huge gift to his contractor cronies. He knew it wouldn't work and he was, in fact, counting on it. We NEED Immigration in this country, desperately. Our prosperity is utterly dependent on and always has been. If you ever actually totally cut off immigration we would be a third-world shithole in at most a year, if not a month in some areas.

As a fence, yes. A fence blocks access to an individual building, not a whole country. A wall or a fence simply can't do that, not alone. What Trump and the Trumpaholics want is a gigantic monument to stupidity It. Won't. Work. And would ruin if it did.

 

The fence has been built at vulnerable spots where traffic was heavy. While nothing will completely stop these people coming, it has slowed the flow and aided BP units to be more effective. The wait in place and the deals with SA governments and Mexico to step up were effective as well.

Correct. And, as your chart shows, he put policies in place to reduce illegal immigration. The 2021 leg shows the new surge caused by ending Trump's policies.

I am aware of the policy change to treat them more humane.

 

Other methods would be much more effective. Monitored cameras on poles directing INA agents would work much better. Trump wanted to build a huge and expensive structure that would be full of holes in a week.

It is not full of holes, it is effective and it works in conjunction with measures you list. I always opposed building a wall/fence because I'm a cold war child and I remember that hateful thing in Berlin. I am still squeamish about it on those grounds but to deny that it works one has to have one's head deep in the sand. There are political measures that would stop the flood but we aren't ever again going to see the unity required for a two party political solution.

 

I think it's more and more intentional. The plan is to reduce America to the lowest common denominator making it "ripe" for globalization.

There were caravans during Trump presidency taking up his subtle invitation. As a matter of fact Trump admitted the situation under his watch was "worse than ever before".

 

He was speaking of when he initially took over, the caravans were underway when Trump got there. There is no way to switch responsibility back to him for what we have today. His illegal immigrant policy was one of the reasons he was so hated by the liberal left.

 

No, the caravans stared under him (in 2017), and he was saying "worse than ever before" throughout his presidency aka every year was worse than the previous year. It just kept getting worse and worse. When he took office the numbers were nowhere near "worse than ever".

The first large and organized "caravan" was arranged by the "Village Without Borders" group and it headed for the US in 2017, and after that they just kept coming. Smaller "caravans" are decades old (some were groups of a dozen people), but they became large and organzied while Trump was in office, which could be why he kept saying every year was "worse than ever before". He also said "they are invading" and "flooding accross the border".

Trump failed on immigration.

Biden? Time will tell.
