Thanks. You may feel differently after you get to know me. For example, I wish the American Revolution had never happened.

Still good to see me? :)

Sarcasm doesn't translate well in print. The point is judging how bad racism is by a non-victim is dodgy at best. You need to ask the victims and a certain demographic does not seem to believe anything they say. BTW https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2019/04/09/race-in-america-2019/
Well you got this right on racism it involves "a certain percentage of people who will dislike, distrust, and dismiss people of different races and ethnicities from their own."

Your response to the opinion of African Americans on continued racism was your opinion: " And yet the bitching and complaining goes on endlessly.." Your dismissal of their concerns resides outside laws and is endemic in certain demographics. In order to change society it takes more than laws it takes willingness to take the others concerns seriously and give them the respect they deserve as fellow citizens, not "love", which seems difficult for a certain demographic.

OK, I'll take what you suggest at face value. Then, exactly what is it that you prescribe for our society beyond the protections and guarantees involved in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the universally-applied convention of RULE OF LAW? Exactly what do you think is needed for all American citizens to be regarded and treated equally?

I hope in framing your recommendation you bear in mind that the intention from the beginning of the Civil Rights movement was to establish for all time one thing: EQUALITY! It is still the essential, crucial, central point in every citizen's relationship with our government, and with each other -- including members of all races and ethnicities!

Typical. I asked you for your recommendation about how we should further the cause of EQUALITY in the United States since you really believe that the laws we have on the books right now are inadequate, and all you can come back with is a lame one-liner with snotty, dismissive nothingness.

I wasn't trying to go 'under' your head, or 'over' it, Edna. Rather, I was trying to get at the problem as you see it, and probe to find what you think a viable solution actually is... but there is nothing but complaint. So, "the bitching and complaining goes on endlessly" among those in your faction, and nothing constructive is achieved! What sense of accomplishment is there in that...?

Don't worry though -- after the Russians and the Chinese have pushed us far back into our dazed-and-confused corner, and they've achieved dominance over everything of importance in human affairs, you'll see some big changes in our American political and economic 'paradigm' -- but you may not like them at all!

Ah, how I loved my frequent business trips to our corp. division HQ in Diego (which included a LOT of free time, too -- ha ha!). The seafood especially was beyond description... how I miss those days, long ago now.

San Francisco was another great place to spend time, and sometimes we'd sneak away from biz meetings and drive around down south to Santa Cruz. The Henry Cowell State Park and its redwood forests are magnificent!

I really love much about California, but I must admit that politically it's gotten to be one of the more mentally-disturbed areas I know of anywhere in the United States. Such a tragedy....

San Diego is still great. San Francisco is in the toilet. You see those feral "youths" robbing the luxury department store in broad daylight with impunity?

Poor San Diego has been overrun by hordes of illegal aliens and other indigent migrant scum, like nearly all of coastal California.

But, evidently Cali voters there like it that way, because they keep on voting for the kind of hyperliberal "woke" creeps who gain wealth and power in the middle of it all. And, those same voters don't mind being taxed to death to pay for it, either!

Asking a "victim" if they're a victim. What could go wrong?

Actually, my daughter and her family live in Encinitas. I see no homeless camps there (local cops don't tolerate it in the slightest) and no panhandlers either. Of course, all the homeless and panhandlers I see, there or in Dallas, appear to be white, and black to a lesser extent. How many Asian or Mexican homeless do you see? The reason for this is that the latter two are all workaholics, at least in my experience.

Seriously, have you ever seen a Chinese or Vietnamese panhandler? I doubt there's even a word for it in Korean.

I can't disagree with much of anything that you said, except that I count all illegal aliens who are courted by Democrats to be "indigent migrant scum". But I've always welcomed hard-working Latinos who come into the country legally, make their money, pay their U.S. taxes, and then return home.

Hooray for the citizens of Encinitas and their evidently excellent police department. It's miraculous that such a police force hasn't already been hammer-locked and savaged by hyperliberal 'advocate' groups like the ACLU....

How has ignoring the victim worked out?
Yes typical, you want my recommendation on how we should further the case of equality? Let me repeat myself: "In order to change society it takes more than laws it takes willingness to take the others concerns seriously and give them the respect they deserve as fellow citizens, not "love", which apparently went zoom. Your "lame one-liner with snotty, dismissive nothingness" of "the bitching and complaining goes on endlessly" was not about my "faction" it was your response to the opinions of African Americans. Those concerns about the criminal justice system, equal housing, hiring practices, etc. need to be listened to and taken seriously for things to change and then maybe what you call the "bitching and complaining " will stop. That certain demographic that you seem to represent however seems to have a hearing deficit.

No one is ignoring any "victims" and we've had a black president. It's time to admit that people who want free s*** will continue to want free s*** while SJW's will carry their water regardless of how much opportunity and unnecessary advantages the already have.

I can actually AGREE with you, Edna. You didn't write anything in the post above that I would take serious issue with at all.

"Concerns about the criminal justice system, equal housing, hiring practices, etc. need to be listened to and taken seriously for things to change", are all perfectly reasonable topics for discussion, and everyone of ALL races should be perfectly willing to discuss them, as well as other matters that need to be sorted out in order for us to ALL to be treated fairly and equally.

It should be said that there are already a considerable number of laws and practices that have been adopted for many years that target some of these items, like equal practices regarding housing ("red-lining", etc.), and hiring practices. Others, like the criminal justice system can certainly stand to be revisited, with changes made where they are warranted, or where there is any difference in sentencing criminals based solely on the basis of race.

    And now a short anecdote:
A black homeowner in my city had two appraisals of her home for a refinance application and she thought they were too low. For a third appraisal she removed family pictures, African art and had a white male friend meet the appraiser as her "brother". The third appraised value was double the other two.
I don't know if any laws were broken and I don't know how often this happens to Black homeowners. I doubt this is a rare occurrence. Homeownership is the number one way intergenerational wealth is passed down.

I'm not an attorney, but, if the case you cited is accurate and verifiable, it very well may be actionable in a court of law! If this situation occurred recently enough to still be within the applicable 'statute of limitations' where it happened, it could be worth a visit to a lawyer there to explore the situation on a free-consultation basis (usually a "free" hour, for a case taken on a contingency basis).

I know you don't seem to have much faith in our Civil Rights laws, Edna, but some of them have some very long, sharp teeth! And when/if companies have been presented with evidence that they've treated someone (of any race) with deception and discrimination based on race, they're usually anxious to settle out-of-court, because the stigma of being successfully prosecuted on a civil rights violation is death to a person's business once the word gets out! 8)

You do know people have the right to their own opinions, yes? If you don't want to buy a house from someone because you're concerned there may be issues with the owner and what they've done to the property that's their business.

Well, I'm an attorney, and the first thing to establish is/are the facts. But, if there's any provable truth to this anecdote (how are we supposed to know?), then yes, it MAY be illegal under the Fair Housing Act:

    In Mortgage Lending:

It is illegal discrimination to take any of the following actions based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin:

Refuse to make a mortgage loan or provide other financial assistance for a dwelling
Refuse to provide information regarding loans
Impose different terms or conditions on a loan, such as different interest rates, points, or fees
    Discriminate in appraising a dwelling
Condition the availability of a loan on a person’s response to harassment
    Refuse to purchase a loan
For more information about discrimination in mortgage lending, visit Fair Lending.

    https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/fair_housing_equal_opp/fair_housing_act_overview

    Here's more:

    Information About Filing a Complaint

If you believe your rights may have been violated, we encourage you to submit a complaint.

Because there are time limits on when a complaint can be filed with HUD after an alleged violation, you should submit a complaint as soon as possible.

When submitting a complaint, please provide as much information as possible, including:

    Your name and address;
    The name and address of the person(s) or organization your complaint is against;
    The address or other identification of the housing or program involved;
A short description of the event(s) that cause you to believe your rights were violated; and
The date(s) of the alleged violation.

    https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/fair_housing_equal_opp/online-complaint

I said above that it MAY be illegal because, as poster Buri notes above, people have a right to their opinions. The first appraisers may have honestly believed the property was worth less than the third appraiser. And they may be justified. I think that they can even legally say that a property is objectively less valuable to buyers regardless of the demographic of the neighborhood, if they can prove this with comparable sales numbers.

If they convince the investigators of this, it's over. If not, it goes to the next level of review. Secondly, investigation needs to be done to see whether the "racist" appraisers, if such they were, were acting at the behest of the bank/mortgage lender/refinancecompany. If not, the appraiser may lose his license, but that's not much of a remedy for the victim. You can also (in addition to complaining to HUD/FHEO) sue him or his company if you can find an attorney take the case.

But see, here's what has already been explained: you can either take action under existing law, which is more than fair IMO, or you can just complain about discrimination. What you cannot do -- but what is being done in this very thread -- is to just complain anonymously on the internet that the game is rigged, that no one is listening; this reinforces the claim that "the bitching and complaining goes on endlessly." My belief is that there're people who cannot be pleased, because they don't want to be pleased, because then they'd have nothing to complain about.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Edna, but Real Estate Agents (I think you Americans call them 'realtors) do this to EVERYONE. What I mean by that is, they assess your likelihood of being too ill informed to know what's going on, and low ball accordingly. Where I live, it actually happens more to white people, than to migrants. Migrants are far more ruthless about that stuff, and won't tolerate being played. Want to know how I know? I have friends in the game. Psychology is their number one tool.

I would say this probably is a rare instance when the appraisers got caught devaluing a black home. It may be routine. BTW https://thehill.com/changing-americ...hat-happened-when-a-black-homeowner-concealed

They devalued a HOME. They don't give a flying **** what colour the vendor is ... if the person presents as someone who hasn't done their due diligence, the realtor will devalue. Rich white people have this happen to them too. If you enter negotions as a well informed person who self-advocates assertively, it won't happen.

It's not hard to be well informed and assertive - and we can always fake it if we're not confident in our ability to know all we should know before trading such a large asset.
