    It's a terrible tragedy for all those concerned, however, of all the places in the world to go hiking, why in the hell go hiking there?

    Does anyone know why they picked Iran border to take a hike?

    There aren't that many Iranians who can even remember that time and so much has happened since by the will of the people with Khomeni's regime that has had a far bigger impact. The resentment has been nurtured just as it surely will be in Bahrain, Egypt, whereever. Its always easy to blame others. The Shah went in for stability, steady progress under an authoritarian system everything you support in Saudi. If the House of Saud falls you can bet your life that the resentment against the US and the West will no different from Iranian resentment irrespective of the resulting regime.

    Hardly inciting paranoia! I doubt they will be there for eight years too, they're a bargaining chip with a fluctuating value that needs to be cashed in when the rate is high.

    Mostly in hindsight when it goes wrong. Was Christopher Columbus voyage West recklessness enough to be called stupidity? How about the Wright brothers and the list goes on.....

    pretty much you are an idiot for being in Iran or Iraq or anywhere in the crap fest that is the ME on your own liesure considering the overall attitude towards Americans right now. on the same note since im very much illegal immigration in this country and believe if you are not supposed to be here then you should pay a high penalty for being here.

    sorry but i have to stick with my guns on this one, they were idiots for even being around those areas, they could have been killed.

    There are plenty of Iranians who remember Operation Ajax... and they KNOW that in 1952 ARAMCO and the SAG were sharing oil revenues 50-50.. .. while BP was paying only 13% directly to the Shah ...

    June 2003, Zahra Kazemi, a Canadian-Iranian journalist, died from torture and head trauma in Evin Prison after being detained for photographing the facility. Examining doctors also found evidence of rape. He did say Westerners and not specifically Americans.

    That's what their courts decided... They probably won't serve 8 years..

    Remember about 1970 an American student got caught smuggling either hash or heroin out of Istanbul?? He was sentenced to 30 years.
