After the Trump disaster, I have two wishes of this electorate: Go all-in on Sanders, or get me a Centrist. You don't have any other option. Insofar as a 'far-right' candidate, I still believe in the Revolution, but the Revolution has been heavily damaged and chances of a good candidate from our revolutionary wing aren't for some time. Hopefully we learn from this and stay on the sidelines for a while.

So for now, I'm so heavily pro-establishment that it makes me nauseous. But it's necessary. I want a Centrist candidate. I professed my love for Marco Rubio, I think he'd be a great President. Other choices were Rand Paul. California's Kamala Harris is tossed around on the Left, some things I agree with her on, others I'm not so hot. But I'd be interested in hearing a more nuanced stance from her on the political stage. Seems she's open borders, and I'm still/probably will never be keen on that. I think a more balanced/selective approach to immigration is desired.

If you'll notice, I'm going for everyone with experience. Heitkamp(North Dakota), she should heavily consider it. ANYONE but an outsider. Washington, as an organization must be ran by someone intimately experienced with it.

Susan Collins?(I think she's done a fantastic job in the Senate as a Moderate R.)

I'd vote for a moderate R in heartbeat, and I suspect that's a greater threat to Trump than the Dems are. Hell, I might vote for a neocon at this point. Maybe Nikki Haley?

See, I do believe in an aggressive foreign policy. But I believe in an tempered aggressive foreign policy. With the neocons, they're want-to-be Napoleons without the military accomplishments of Bontaparte. That being said, Trump *might* be worse and that's scary.

I always thought of myself as patriotic. But I never actually understood what it FEELS like.

As crazy as it may sound to you Trump has taught me what love of country and patriotism really feels like.

Anybody here liked Bernie Sanders? I used to be on a different forum and there was a lot of support for him. I would definitely choose him over Hillary if I was an American and a dem.

People believe in Trump the myth, rather than Trump the man. And well, we'd want the President to succeed. But that's a lost cause at this point, so I believe in starting the 2020 conversation early, so we don't make the same mistake twice.

Given a choice between Rubio and Hillary, I might have voted for Rubio.

It's a shame we never got that chance, thanks to Chris Christie's weak ass political attack. So weak, I can't even believe Repub primary voters actually factored it in. But, we got Trump so that shows what kind of base the RNC has politically.

That's why I quit the party. I tend to be liberal on some issues, conservative on others, and have changed my mind on key issues. But... I didn't know if I could ever forgive them for Bush II or Palin, and I will never get over Trump. Out of principle alone I can never vote for another Republican. And I don't trust this country anymore.

What I have been witnessing is a nightmare. And at any time, Trump could launch a nuclear strike in a matter of minutes. The checks are all but gone for the sake of brevity. They only have minutes if we are attacked.

They have put the fate of the world in the hands of a puke like Trump. This is just beyond belief.

Then they should run and make their case. Trump did that, and now must deal with the arrows being flung his way. We need more Washington outsiders running for office, not less. Establishment politicians should be voted out -- they've failed in their duties to the citizens of the United States. Both parties should be ashamed of themselves.

Which is another way of saying you'd probably still have voted for Hillary. And that says everything we need to know.

If I forget, for one moment my desire for political revolution(I think you've seen a few posts), I would also say I'm liberal on some issues, conservative on others. Namely, pro-family policies(I do believe we need to make sure kids are watching kid-rated stuff, for example. Not religious, so it wouldn't be a religious dogma, but more of: Once corrupted, it's hard to uncorrupt. I'm a case in point. Save that crap for when you're 17.) But economically, I'm socially Liberal as long as we plan for ways to pay and sustain our programs so they don't mire us in debt.

But there isn't such a thing as a balanced party, so we're stuck with these 'choices'. And like you said, I don't trust the country anymore. We've picked R/D for the last 100 years, and maybe it's time to stop that. Not to fall for a Trump fake populist, but to really make a different choice.

    You're a prospective politician yourself aren't you?
What are your thoughts on the idea of removing the First Past The Post Plurality system and replacing it with a Ranked System?
Do you agree that doing that would lead to more moderate candidates being elected to office?
And that more moderate candidates would lead to better political outcomes overall?

I think I care more about having a president who is anti-authoritarian than I do about the left vs right spectrum. That means we stop supporting policies that grant the government more power over the people, and start passing policies that grant the people more power over the government. The government's size and power is big enough.. in fact it's probably too big at this point

As you know AN, I share your admiration for Rubio. He was my #1 choice in 2016.

I hope Trump gets primaried in 2020. If he does I'd like to see John Kasich as the man. But it's very hard to primary an incumbent President, no matter how unpopular and unsuccessful he is. They tried it with Carter in 1980 and it didn't work. So I think we Republicans are stuck with Trump as the nominee in 2020.

I'm a moderate myself and want to see a moderate Republican. I don't want a radical fundamentalist who wants to focus on abortion and gay sex. I don't want a radical war monger who wants to bomb everyone to kingdom come. I want someone measured, experienced, and hard working.

With polarization of the two major parties, each moving to more extreme left and right position. Neither is about to nominate a centrist or moderate. It is the hard core left and right who vote in the primaries and you will have more Trump's and Clinton's. I suspect the Democrats will probably nominate Warren who is further left than 90-95% of Americans. Will Trump run in 2020? There too I suspect the Republicans will want him out of the picture. There's a disaster looming for the GOP in next years midterms if the numbers do not change and continue on with their trend.

My choices last year were Jim Webb and John Kasich from each party or hoping their would be our choices last November. It's very hard to start putting names out their for 2020 which is a long way away. It is nothing more than a guessing game. For the Democrats, those whom I don't want as their nominee are Warren, Schumer and Pelosi. Anyone else I would have to take a good look at. On the Republican side, I don't want Trump or Cruz. Anyone else I will have to take a good look at.

I left Hillary Clinton off my do not want list for the Democrats as I think she is toast. I would love to see a fresh face with political experience for both parties. One who has this nation's interest at heart and not just their political party. One who realizes this nation is made up of Republicans, Democrats and the non-affiliated, independents. That there are thousands of different ideologies out there, that just pushing one ideology won't unify, but divide. A person willing and able to work with the other side and compromise. Be willing to take some of what he wants even if it isn't everything he wants and to give something in return to keep moving forward. This all or nothing has to stop. Taking little steps forward is still moving forward.

It's funny how that stuff impresses you. Those are the qualities we've had in presidents for the past several decades and they've all been abysmal failures.

I'll take the fiercely competitive and successful alpha male billionaire thank you.

I'm going to disagree with you on Warren, pero. I don't see the Dems pushing her. She too closely resembles Hillary Clinton in a lot of ways and I think the Dems need to trot out someone quite different than Clinton. They have an uphill climb no matter what they do so replicating their 2016 disaster won't work. I can see them pushing Webb, Bayh, or Manchin.

I also don't want Trump or Cruz in 2020, but I'll also add that I don't want Christie or Huckabee in the mix either. I would probably support anyone else. I hope Kasich thinks about running against Trump.

Kasich?!?!?! The guy who won like 2 States and barely even took his home state? The one who's home state Trump took in the general with a healthy landslide? That Kasich?!?!?
