That's not entirely accurate. The early mustangs did well in Africa but yes the Merlin was a better choice. But the p 47 was much more destructive to the German military..

There were planes that were better than others on paper but winning fights was much more about pilot skill and tactics.
It was common for seasoned pilots in p 40s to trounce new pilots in brand new D mustangs. The p 40 had the allison by the way.

Now, fast forward what does it say when newbie f35 pilots absolutely trounce our best f-15 and f16 pilots?

Anything that is guided towards an f 35 dies before it can detect the f35 on it's own.

That leaves shooting blindly at the sight or sound of jet engines as an adversaries only option.

F-35 has no stealth ability and can be detected by passive radar. Since itss low, it can be shot down even from ground.
