    I have caught a lot of bluegill. Of course, I use very light tackle. A little piece of nightcrawler or a mealworm under a bobber are good baits. To make a meal, I know some people gut them and fry 'em whole, but I prefer to filet off the sides and the skin, bread the fillets, and deep fry for a few minutes. It's a fair amount of work given their small size, but really good.

    I remember 30 years ago taking my then little boy to a pond for his first fishing experience, and it was easy bluegill fishing. Nice memory.

    Bluegill and crappie are big in Kentucky.Easy Pickins.
    Now Lake Erie used to be famous for it's perch.
    Get into the Canada side and you got really big small game
    fish like Muskie and Northern Pike.Once in Canada as a Kid
    { we went a couple years to a place called Honey Harbor }
    My cousin had a Dogfish on the line.He was fishing off the
    pier near the resort.His rod broke and his father came over in time
    with a net.That was one ugly fish.

    If you wake up in the night to go pee and discover you are still wearing your work clothes.....maybe that’s an indication.

    I think bluegill is the best tasting fish there is. Crappie is a very close second. The big gills have some meat on them but the taste is worth it. I also have a few shellcrackers. They taste good and are a little thicker than gills.

    We get stripe coming under the damn at Ohatchee now and then. Great fun and a good fight. But what we are really known for is the crappie. Big slabs and a lot of them. Some call this area the crappie capital of the world.

    I kept battling autocorrect. It was insisting I was talking about strippers. Not sure why.

    With Perch you have to use a scaler.It's like a Barber shop pair of
    electric clippers.They have thick scales on their skin.
    But they are very meaty and hardy.Taste great.
    You don't cook them like Trout.Perch are breaded
    and tossed into a hot skillet with just oil or butter.
    Trout Needs to be cooked tenderly.Best in the Oven with
    some light seasoning and butter dabbed on top.
    I haven't seen my usual Trout { Ruby Red } at Krogers since
    last fall.I like Salmon also.But there's too much Salmon out.
    You cook it like Trout only longer.I think most the Salmon is
    Farm Raised from places like Chile.
    Now I eat Smoked Salmon almost every day as an appetizer before
    supper.It's full of healthy Omega 3 oils.
    I just purchased the Expensive kind { Smoked Norwegian }
    Plus some Smoked Sockeye.There are also good Atlantic and
    Alaskan varieties.

    When I lived in Indiana they used to release trout in our lakes. They tasted like mud. But speckled trout from Lake ponchartrain were delicious if wild caught. If bought in fish markets they were not very good.

    The best seafood and it is absolutely the best...Mangrove snapper, snook, and yellowtail. The state laws have so many regulations it is scary to catch one, they have to be just so long or you have to throw it back and by throwing it back it just might die...what a waste. They can't be too long or too short it gets to be a real hassle. "The government I am here to help."
