    Wouldn’t that require a constitutional amendment ?

If it does..., good luck getting that done

The 700,000 citizens of D.C. pay more in taxes than 20 states yet they have NO REPRESENTATION in our government!!! Their single REPRESENTATIVE is NON VOTING. So they have the reason for why we revolted from the British TAXATION WITH NO REPRESENTATION !!!!!!

Easy solution: Give the land back to Maryland. That way people get that representation they're crying for and we don't have to worry about a Constitutional fight over statehood. Of course then Democrats wouldn't get 2 new Senate seats and an electoral college edge - since we all damned well know this is the real reason.

They live a stone's throw from the very seat of our nation's power. Nearly every single person in that district is a bureaucrat, a lawyer, or a member of some political based organization. You could pick 10 people at random from DC and measure their collective influence against 100,000 random Americans from other states and you still couldn't balance the scales. If anything they have too much representation which is PRECISELY why the founders separated the federal body in the first place.

Why not just incorporate DC into Maryland or reduce the DC area to just the capital buildings?

You don't think that it's unfair to give D.C. Residents tax breaks that the rest of us don't get? If DC were mostly Republican, the vote for statehood would be exactly the opposite. That means that it's not about fairness but about who wants two more votes in the Senate.

I think there needs to be district strictly for the federal government.
But surrounding areas should be annexed by neighboring states instead. A new state makes no sense.
Democrats would get more support by converting Puerto Rico into a state, which the residents did want to do and even voted for it.
D.C. As a state makes no sense. Puerto Rico does.

    It’s about taxation without representation.

Bullshit and more Bullshit. It is about one thing and that is the democrats gaining two more senate seats. We heard the same crap with Puerto Rico back a few years when the dems lost ground in congress. If they can't win elections they try an end-around.
**** them. Next, they will attempt to stack the Supreme Court to their benefit by adding a half dozen justices. Oh,wait.....................

Are we really going to pretend that DC doesn't have representation in congress?

So you think it’s fair that some Americans pay income tax but have no Senator in Congress?

Yep. Right now thousands of working Americans have no Senator in congress. Their votes were overridden by thousands of those that have no stake in the political system.

No, the Constitution only requires a federal district, which can be carved out of Washington

Why, Wyoming with less people and enjoys have Statehood, why shouldn’t the citizen of DC, who have more people and pay way more taxes?

Not true, there are associated business operating around the Gov’t, and why suddenly do people working for the Gov’t earn less federal representation than other Americans?

What makes you think Maryland wants to incorporate additional citizens? Why should they have to?

There does, if you ever been to DC the tourist area would fit perfectly, contains all three of the Branches of Gov’t

And what makes you think such as Maryland wants the additional citizenry? What is in it for Maryland?

Regardless of what you personally think of it, those 700 hundred thousand plus people living in DC have zero representation, and they pay more taxes than those living in Wyoming, so why is it equitable for one and not for the other?

If you live in any State in the US you have representation in the US Senate, in fact, if you live in many States, you are over represented, Wyoming, not even as large as metro Buffalo, NY, has the same representation as California

Having someone who is allowed to watch and comment is NOT representation.

Congress isn't an exercise in tourism.
