nope the senate will just follow the constitution and not ignore it. it requires a federal district to house the federal govt. it would be nice if house dems respect it

You seem to forget that it was the forefathers that specifically addressed DC in the Constitution. Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17.

DC was never meant to be a State. If it was then they would have made it that way from the beginning. Instead they wanted a neutral area because the Federal Government was supposed to be neutral and not even present the perception of favoritism towards any one State. Maybe those in that 10 square mile radius should move out if they want representation.

There are federal buildings all over Northern VA and Maryland now.
The State Department belongs in Maryland - unless Mexico DF wants it.

Why not? The State Department is not a branch of the federal government.
The Pentagon is in VA. Mexico DF probably has some spare swamp land for our DOS - it was built on a lake.

It doesn't have to encompass the entire city. George Washington Selected a 10 square mile "zone". I t does not need to be that big. It can be selective and separate, meaning they dont have to have common borders, and therefore all federal buildings could be that.

No it doesn't. It does not have to be a contiguous area. You know that,. Stop being obtuse

The "area" does not have to be contigious. It can be separate areas. All federal building can carry that designation.

But hey, anything to keep dems from voting right ;)

Actually the Constitution specifically states "ten miles square". You can't have a square that's broken up. Kinda hard to have a square when you have rectangular buildings, circular buildings and odd angled buildings don't you think? And it has nothing to do with keeping Dems from voting. It has to do with the purpose behind having the federal government based in a non-state area. If Dems want a vote then move to a State. I don't care if they vote or not. But if they live in DC, then they choose to not vote. Anyone that rents or owns a home in DC certainly has the money to live in other States.

I think DC and Northern Virginia should simply be added to Maryland and then we can call it a day. None of those people align with the real state of Virginia so take it all.

If the Democrats thought the 3 members of Congress from DC would be Republicans - especially the Senators - they'd oppose this.

At no time has every US citizen has representation in Congress; when you choose to live in DC, you choose to give up your representation.

Just as easily, and to gain the necessary effect, the land area you discuss here could be given back to the state of Maryland.

At one time the entire country believed THE SOLID SOUTH would always vote DEMOCRAT and we know now that all it took was LBJ getting the Civil Rights legislation passed to change that 100% ??? Nothing is forever.

    Fact remains:

That still doesn’t explain why Wyoming with less Americans gets more of a voice in Gov’t than DC
