and is supported by taxes paid by the states, like Vermont and Wyoming and the residents therein. DC is wholly supported by the States and we're it not for being the seat of the federal government, wouldn't exist.

It was Maryland's land to begin with. This population argument is irrelevant to me. If its numbers thing then why shouldn't northern California have the statehood they want? That's about 16 million people and by their opinion they lack representation as well seeing as how diametrically opposed they are to southern California and the near absolute power it holds. So I'll amend my compromise, give both DC and north Cali statehood, boom everyone's happy.

But you and I know damned well this isn't about 'the people'. If it were north Cali would have had statehood long ago as they've been asking for it en masse for a decade. No, this is about Rep Pelosi's gambit to pick up 2 more hard left Senate seats. Own that truth please, argue for it how you will but own that truth first.

Because the purpose of DC was to create federal district for the capital independent of any state.

They do. They have right to live anywhere in the U.S. If they don't like living in a federal district, they can move to any of 50 states. The residents of DC have the same right to vote as any other Americans. Getting 2 more democrat senators is not a legitimate reason to disable the federal district.

Well, the House of Representatives can vote on anything they desire. What they can't unilaterally do is create a state out of thin air simply because they want more Democrat Senators in the Senate. There is a means and method to bring States into the Union.
However, before they get to that maybe they should concern themselves with that little road block to that desire. It's the US Constitution which explicitly defines what the District of Columbia is. Amend the US Constitution and then come back and vote DC into statehood and make them the 51st state.
Maybe while they're at that Amendment thing, they can create yet one more Amendment and define the means and methods for any State to cede from the Union if that state so desires. The last unsanctioned attempt didn't fare to well for the country.

Giving the residential areas of DC back to Maryland, much like part of the original District was ceded back to Virginia could solve all the problems. It would still leave the "Federal District" with the various governmental functions independent of any State. The only possible exception to residential area return might be "Embassy Row" which is essentially converted residential properties.

False. Federal taxes apply to those in DC. Plus, they collect DC taxes, too.

Draw a line around the Hill big enough to enclose the WH and the SCOTUS to the river bank of the Potomac on the VA side and call it DC.
Maryland deserves the rest of The Swamp.

Why, should Wyoming be absorbed by Montana?

Apples and oranges. Wyoming and Montana are both States DC, is a Federal District and was never intended to be a State.

they cannot afford to payout more welfare to DC residents than America is already paying to DC

a republican in name only is the lesser evil to a democrat

Almost all of the welfare going into DC is for the corrupt bipartisan ruling political class.

No, its about the right not wanting a "small state" that is heavily democrat

I thought righties were all about the forefathers and what they thought about when they wrote the constitution. Its about meaning right ? So why ignore their montra for fighting the war for independence, "Taxation without representation" ?
