GM closed Buick City, the city went broke when the residents that worked there lost their jobs, stopped paying city income taxes and moved away and stopped paying property taxes too. where the city really lost out was the non-resident income taxes most of the workers were paying. the city was collecting 1/2% of the factory's payroll from people that the only burden they put on public services was a 100 yard drive on surface streets to and from work.
