17 year old child punches ref once and kills him

So the fatter the kid the heavier the fist? This wasnt a fist fight, the guy was making notes and the little psycho came up and hit him.

It is refreshing to know that the concept of "innocent until proven guilty" is alive and well in the United States.

The last time I completely believed a police account of what happened in the US was when Kennedy was shot.

 

However, witness saw the kid go up and attack him. He then got dizzy and puked up blood. This is nothing like the Kennedy thing.

 

Sure, but at the same time this nation has a real problem with locking people up, and for way too long a time. He's 17. Tossing a teenager with anger issues into prison for life is simply not reasonable. Obviously he has seen what his unchecked violence can do and, yes, what he did deserves some severe punishment, but to teach and rehabilitate, not to simply dispose of him.

This attitude towards criminals is hardly putting an end to crime.

Both were attacked by poorly raised teens.. Martin was able to defend himself and this is an example of someone who wasnt, and wound up dead.

What is a good reason for why he lost control and hit someone in authority and that ended in death? This is not a normal reaction to the situation, this wasn't the effing world cup. Is this the time his parents need to testify they would beat him if he did not win his games? Something is wrong with this kid and its better to nip it in the bud now then three years down the road where he kills someone because he lost control.

 

The boy is charged with aggravated assault.. and he's in juvenile detention.

Throwing punch is not murder.

I seriously doubt even OMara is stupid enough to mangle his already mangled case with references to this .

I can't help but wonder if this would be your same attitude had that been your family member that got punched to death. Somehow I doubt it.

 

Actually its called Involuntary Manslaughter. He didn't punch him with intent to kill, which is what separates Murder from Manslaughter.

 

Here is the right thought process- When you decide to hit someone in the head, you risk killing them. Sorry you didn't mean to is what drunk drivers who kill people use. Why a group of people think a hand is not a weapon mystifies me.

 

No question that I would be upset and angry.. but a punch rarely causes death.. That's why this is news.

 

Of course there's something wrong with him, but hey, there's something wrong with a lot of people. A large part of it just might be the nature of our media, but with or without that people are more or less violent and at times temperamental by nature.

Remember, all this punk did was punch a guy. He wasn't aiming to kill the guy. Yes, this does need to be addressed. However, life in prison is simply not a reasonable way to go about it, and that's all I was saying to begin with.

 

Right, but what is the difference between having a few drinks and getting into your car and accidently killing someone, and hitting someone in the head in a fit of rage and be shocked if it ends in death? Its the same thing.
