There are some major differences with Australia which make it easier to control a pandemic. Even though they have some very large cities, the cities are a long way apart which makes it more difficult to transmit from city to city. They do not an area like our NE US where large cities butt up against each other.

Most of the travel into Australia is by aircraft and some by ship. Both aircraft and ship travel has almost been shut down.
