Yet another example of climate change having a devastating effect on wildlife. I can only hope these beautiful creatures find a way to adapt before it's too late. They rely on sea ice to hunt. Without it they may find it extremely difficult to find food.

A change in our CO2 emissions needs to happen quickly. It may already be too late.

More and more of the environmental movement are admitting they were wrong on nuclear power. Unfortunetaly they are still the minority. To many environmentalists still live under the delusion that wind and solar can power the entire world with virtually no pollution.

Solar at some point may provide enough energy to power residential structures which use very little electricity per unit in the scheme of things. However over half the power in the US is used for commercial applications and there is no way even 85% efficient (the theoretical maximum efficiency attainable which we are not even close to today) can provide that amount of power. Utilizing all the geothermal power in the US today would yield 5% of our total energy needs not including future growth. Nuclear is our ONLY option outside of using children running in giant hamster wheels which everyone keep poo pooing all the time when I suggest it as an alternative.

I must give you big props for your position.

    Tao ++

However, the enormous obstacle is your Liberal friends. Barbara Boxer got San Onofre closed recently over a 100% quickly fixable issue. Instead we are burning $500 Million worth of fossil fuel extra each year because of her. Once you have your house in order, please let us know.

I am 100% behind cleaning up the air as much as possible, and believe it or not, so are most conservatives. We will allow all sorts of environmental regulations if you consider the economy on your path to action. So far, that has not happened and we will not be bullied with no solution behind it. We know the current proposals are stupidity because if you don't start with nuclear, then all you are doing is spouting garbage. Wind, Solar, etc... couldn't do the base-load required and won't be able to for decades to come. They cannot even do 2% of what is required on a reliable basis.

Completely agree. Living here in Ann Arbor I have a lot of liberal friends. If you're unaware we're like the San Francisco of Michigan politically speaking. Very similar demographics. So lots of liberals. And climate change does come up a lot. The divide on this issue is usually education. When I talk about this to my friends who are at or who graduated U of M they usually are very supportive of nuclear. But people who didn't go to college or didn't get much of a scientific education in college are a bit scared of the idea. I try to explain that coal is much more dangerous and on average put more radiation into our atmosphere than nuclear does. That usually convinces them that nuclear is the way to go.

Just tell the ones that are scared that if there IS an accident you might get superpowers from the nuclear radiation. Who doesn't want superpowers?

The scientists are telling us that doing nothing will have a multi trillion dollar price tag on the global economy. So at this point the economically smart idea is to radically shift our approach to CO2 emissions and prevent disastrous financial damages to our economy. This is not something we can wait for the free market to solve.

you don't accept "science" from economists, but you accept economics from scientists.??

Libs need to understand: we can't really change the weather. They also need to understand that in the 1970's, these scientists were scarring everybody over what they were calling another "coming ice age." Now, they are touting their "chicken little, the sky is falling" mantra of "climate change," formerly known as "global warming." Newsflash: the weather and climate is ALWAYS changing....and has since the beginning of time. And while I am all for doing what we can do to take care of the earth AND the air....I am NOT for putting ourselves at an economic disadvantage to the rest of the world. And especially since China, the number 1 polluter of air, has said "NO," they won't be a part of cutting their pollution. I've traveled overseas....and I'll take OUR own air here in the U.S. over most any other nation's.

Many economists believe fighting climate change now rather than fighting the results of climate change in the future is preferable.

Another hoax by the global warming crews. In late summer and fall, walruses tend to form massive aggregations of tens of thousands of individuals on rocky beaches or outcrops. The migration between the ice and the beach can be long-distance and dramatic. In late spring and summer, for example, several hundred thousand Pacific walruses migrate from the Bering Sea into the Chukchi Sea through the relatively narrow Bering Strait.

    MOD EDIT - Rule 3

    1) Scientists say we can and are changing the weather.
    2) Climate doesn't change without a reason. Global warming wouldn't happen without a reason. Those reasons could include increased volcanic activity (not happening) increased solar activity (not happening) or increased green house gases (Happening) We know increasing green house gases causes warming. And we know we are responsible for one of the largest increases in green house gases in known history.

Dating back to at least the 1604, there have been reports of large walrus gatherings or haulouts. Walrus haulouts are not unusual and have long been recognized and islands have been set aside for such gatherings. Do you believe everything you read from the Gore-acles?

Let's see... should I trust the internationally recognized science organization or the random guy I don't know from a political forum.

CNN wire is not a trusted scientific organization. Sorry! There is no reference to anything scientific in your article . . .just some reporters rhetoric on what he wants you to believe.

I find it funny that none of the articles actually mention any threat to these walruses from having to set up shop on land as opposed to ice. They are learning to adapt to a changing environment as they have done for millions of years.

So what exactly is the problem again?

Man made climate change is pure and total bull sheit.

The climate has been changing since this planet was a rock.

The continents even move on their own.

The change on our planet never stops.

Educated fools are what we really need to fear.

6.5 Billion year old planet....and we've been keeping these particular records for how long exactly? Just trying to guage exactly what kind of emphasis I should place on said records. If I watched a tortoise for 2 eyeblinks, and recorded it...what would my observations be worth?

no one is gonna change their ways, people or corporations in any meaningful way until the technology increases to the point that they can and they can afford it

investing in alternative energy is the best bang for the buck

When I was on the North Slope in 1977, I saw huge gatherings of walrus on the beaches. That is what walrus do. It is what walrus have always done. It is what walrus will continue to do. So some enviroloon noticed something that has happened every year since walrus have been on this earth and now it is proof of global warming. The environmentalists are getting desperate.

Because -there’s no other possible explanation- global warming must be to blame. This used to be a sign that Walruses were doing well but with the CAGW post sanity meme, it is a bad thing.

Give me a peer-reviewed, unbiased scientific paper that proves the existence of global warming, and maybe, just maybe, we can have an honest conversation about the topic.

let us know when 35000 dead walruses wash up on shore. From what I see, this is normal, has happened plenty of times before and will happen again.
Until then what is your new plan for a viable alternative to fossil fuel? When I say viable I mean viable. As you know the world runs on tractor trailer trucks. Without them running for a week we all die. So unless you can tell us how to run them on an apparently newly discovered fuel, what exactly do you want the human race to do?
Nuclear is bad, remember? Just like Californians....in the 70s paper bags were bad, the libs chained themselves to trees, they touted plastic, cheap, clean, no dead trees, now plastic is bad and paper is back to being good. Seems to me the cycle we see is liberals shouting fire when there is no fire in every generation.
