I was 8 years old when I shot my first gun. It was a military 6 shot .45 cal revolver. I did this under the direction and control of my father. Many people in the military and in combat never know that they killed. During my tours in Nam I used a 12 gauge shotgun and I know that I hit my mark up close and personal many times. Other than that, I now own several rifles, shotguns etc,. I taught my sons and daughters to respect the dangers, safety and the use of weapons. There's no mystique about guns, they're inanimate objects using the technology of controlled directed explosion.

And 12 yrs later, we had our 1st mass school shooting.
So those 1st 2 murderers were on drugs for probably 10 yrs or so.

There are some gun owners who aren't so astute in training and handling.
In fact, there is no requirement for a gun purchaser to know a single thing about the gun.

The fact we have mass shooters shows some don't treat guns with repsect but simply as a killing tool.

Ok, I'll mark you down as another Democrat who hates the police in your view that having law enforcement in schools protecting children constitutes "a police state."

There are NOT tens of millions of school buildings. There is approximately 100,000 public schools k-12.

    https://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=84

It would take 100,000 police to have armed, trained, and sworn full time police (not retirees or ex-military but 100% current law enforcement) in every public school in the United States.

The Florida school of the shooting has 3000 students. So what would it cost per student per day for a full time police officer present? Knowing that violent crime in school is HIGHER than in the general public? Less than 15 cents a day per student. But school children aren't worth 15 cents a day to government. It comes down to that.

The number of violent crimes against children in public schools is over 750,000 PER SCHOOL YEAR. This includes many thousands of rapes and a dozen or 2 murders. But nearly everyone agrees that children really aren't worth it. Instead, let's all rant about two sides of gun control that will change exactly nothing and everyone knows it.

There are 3.5 police of every 1000 people in the USA. But for the vast majority of schools, the ratio is 0 per 1000. Yet children are the most defenseless of all and are not there on their wishes - plus the parents forced to turn them over to the government - who then advertises they have children in no-defense shooting galleries.

That there is no advocacy for actually PROTECTING THE CHILDREN, the fact is 99% of those talking do not give a DAMN about children's safety, but rather are just trying to use the shootings to score political points for themselves or their team. They don't care how many school children are killed - they might even can get votes out of it.

A few designated teachers should be allowed to have a weapon in certain areas of a school.

Not every teacher would want to, but there are going to be a few teachers who would be OK with it.
The same goes for being on a restraint team at a school. Not all teachers want to, but some will.

If the teachers are trained to shut down their classrooms during a terror drill, they can certainly take the next step by unlocking a drawer and pulling out a firearm with some predetermined rules of engagement.

Better to stand and fight than to have to shield your students with your own body with almost no chance of survival !

You would be surprised at how many young children bring guns and knives from home to show their friends at school.

You're right..... Two of my grandsons were on Ritalin and I counseled my daughters about the side effects and recommended they stop the use of the drug. Thankfully they listened and they've grown up without that poison in their system and have turned out stable and good kids. TG...
