I carry every day and have for years at kid's baseball game, parks, churches, etc.... without an incident. I even worked in a church nursery on Mother's Day with a gun on my hip. Nobody knew and the kids were safe and well cared for. I was working the nursery with a very talented doctor. We have had incidents of non-custodial parents trying to get their kids out of the church nursery before. We started putting volunteer security staff in the hall between the nursery and the church entrance during services. Sometimes armed if they happen to be legally carrying. I once knew someone who died during a church shooting and I don't want that for my family. We know who carries in church and instinctively cover all entrances during services. WE don't talk about guns or reveal guns in church. That would be a distraction from our purpose. School is no different.

How 'bout you address what I posted, which was...

QUOTE="ChoppedLiver, post: 1068713460, member: 69825"]Just getting schools out of gun free status will considerably reduce what we saw last Friday if not totally.

You and your lib/prog gun-grabbing ilk FAIL to understand that.[/QUOTE]

Why can't state or local governments or even the school districts provide security? Federal involvement is never an efficient use of money. National defense is their Constitutional role. Protecting kids in schools is a local matter. We give too much control of our lives to the feds as it is.

Besides, a trained teacher might have a good chance against a shooter if he/she guards an assigned area and ambushes the shooter when the shooter enters at close range. Just look at how that cop performed in Garland TX outside the draw Mohamed contest. He dropped 2 body armored and assault rifle toting terrorists without emptying his magazine. A nearby unarmed security guard was shot in the leg, but the cop was unharmed and the terrorists died on the scene.

I'm not opposed to armed guards per se, but they would be much more expensive.

I don't think of carrying weapons as a pia, but it does require some thought and perhaps some trial and error to figure out what works best for you. Women have lots of options.

Daniel, they already are the first responders. Google "Virginia Tech shooting" and click the Wiki link. The efforts the teachers took to protect their students were heroic and just soooo sad at the same time. No way to fight back except to try and barricade the doors. The shooter was able to force the doors open ... 5 teachers killed.

These school shooters almost always kill helpless, unarmed teachers. The Sandy Hook shooter killed 6 staff members. The list just goes on and on. In Roseburg the shooter killed the teacher first .... Don't they deserve a fighting chance?

Funny that youse two can't refute a word of it.

Both of you are worthless when it comes to intelligent discussion and/or debate.

I think we should begin calling the anti student protection libs as “hide in the closet libs” (like Kevin Spacey)

How about we give EVERYONE who enters a school a gun!

That way all the kids can defend themselves without having to find a teacher with a gun.....

If the latest shooter had the right to have a gun then surely ALL kids have a right to have a gun to defend themselves and others.....

There, problem solved.......shame on those who want to restrict teenagers right to own a gun!!

What about the liability issue; suppose a teacher in an emergency situation fires his/her gun at a gunman, misses and hits a child instead killing the child? The parents of the dead child would own the school and teacher.

I didn't say they couldn't be armed - I just pointed out that it was unrealistic to expect 54 year-old Mrs Marple, the English teacher, to be a first responder in a shooting. Truth is you MIGHT find several teachers in the entire school who want to play this roll.

We spend millions to make the airlines safe from shooters and it really works - I just think we have to come to the same realization with schools - we're going to have to spend the money and get the guards to do the same. We can shift money from defense spending from things that might happen in the future to things that actually are happening to our kids now.
